Being induced

My doctor hasn't explained anything out to me and y'all are always so good at answering questions so... What should I expect when I go in to be induced on the 13th and also what should I bring with me?

bring your birth certificate, know your ssn, form of ID, some comfortable clothes for after, your hospital bag(with phone chargers ,baby clothes, changes of clothes, hygeine things, etc.) you might want to bring some money for snacks if you get hungry. or your kids,bf, etc

it depends really, are you having an outpatient or an impatient induction?

my first induction was outpatient, i went in to maternity day unit, was given an ultrasound to check there was enough fluid round baby and then had an internal, they gave me another sweep and inserted a pessary which slow releases hormones over 24 hours to encourage your cervix to soften and dilate. i was told to call labour ward in twelve hours - either tellin them i was in labour or getting them to book me in again for next day. i didn't go into labour so was told to come in for 1030am, got a call at 9am tellin me to bring my bag as it be an impatient induction - so i took my hospital bag and babys too. again i was hooked up to monitor and they gave me yet another sweep, waters were bulging so they said i had to wait on a bed becoming available in labour ward so they could break them. i waited til 7pm :-o  so went to shop to get puzzle books etc. they broke my waters artificially and was told they would start iv drugs to induce me if i wasn't in labour within two hours, 15 mins after my waters broke i was contracting, 9.5 hours later baby boy was here.

my advice would be is take your hospital bag and babys, just as you would normally. they can induce you with the hormone pessary which stays in for 24 hours, the gel which you can have three lots of with an 8 hour spacing, you can have your waters broken artificially or be hooked up to iv drugs.  as to which method they use it firstly depends how dilated you are, if any, and how likely you are to be labouring soon, it also depends on their policy or preferred method - in Scotland they won't hook you to iv fluids unless as last resort cause they want you to be mobile as much as possible but i know other places hook you to iv sooner.  also be prepared that you may not be able to stick to your birth plan - mine went completely out the window due to complications in labour - though they were nothing to do with being inducted - and i ended up having to have an emergency c section after getting to fully dilated and pushing, although again i would have needed one regardless of whether i was induced or not.

sorry its so long, hope its helpful x
