Bleeding after birth

So I've taken a lot of classes about labor and birth, but we still havnt talked about the postpartum bleeding part. How long do you bleed after giving birth ? And is it like a normal period or heavier ? And does that part of you ever go back to normal from giving birth vaginally lol

There's another thread I just commented on just a little bit down the page about being scared of ripping or tearing... I gave some advice about things that can reduce the risk. Maybe you'll want to check that out too :-) good luck!!

Up to six weeks is totally normal, sometimes more like four or five but it all depends. The bleeding/discharge progresses from several days of fairly heavy bleeding with clots (lochia rubra) and stuff to moderate pinkish discharge (lochia serosa) to lighter whitish discharge (lochia alba) as your body returns to its pre-pregnancy state.
I had no tearing or damage during my son's birth and according to my partner, there's no difference as to how sex feels to him before and after childbirth. It felt a little different to me for a while when we were first getting back into the swing of it... but not for very long.
