Bloody show or something to be worried about?

Since last night i have started spotting. I started losing my mucus plug all week but now there is fresh blood. When I use the bathroom it's a bit on the toilet paper, but everything I am ready says that the bloody show is older blood and is with mucus, this is fresh blood. I have been cramping all day off and on, is this just the onset of labor? or should I go to the hospital to make sure nothing is wrong.

I was 3cm dilated earlier today, so that puts me at ease. thank you

It could be the onset of labor, or you could be dilating and getting ready for the onset of labor (if that makes sense? lol). I know when I dilate, I spot...I only had bloody show JUST before labor with my son, never with my daughter, and it was a LOT of bright red blood...I mean when the doctor checked my cervix his gloves were soaked in bright red blood from the show, before my water was broken.

So...I would say maybe you're dilating? how far were you dilated at your last appointment? You know, it's always better safe than sorry, so if there is a concern that something's going on, I would call my OB's on-call number if I were you...but in my experience, dilating can cause spotting. :-)
