Breastfeeding Moms!

My baby is a week old tomorrow...and it seems like all I do is feed him. Just curious how long others take to do one feeding...like an half hour or more? Just wondering if maybe hes just not getting enough in one feeding so needs fed more often....im completely exhausted!!

Breast milk is tons easier to digest since it's perfectly designed for baby. The first two weeks are crucial to getting a good supply which is one of the reasons it's so sad to me when moms give up after only a couple of days. The first two weeks baby will be feeding pretty much constantly. Part of that is probably comfort.
Baby's been on the inside for nine months and all the sudden he/she is out and needs mama for comfort. The more you nurse, the more cuddles baby gets and the more like the womb it is. Plus baby is working really hard to bring in your supply. Watch for wet and poopy diapers but you're most likely just fine mama. Way to go for deciding to breastfeed!

Breast milk doesn't "fill" the baby up as long as formula, that's why it requires more feedings.

It takes awhile for supply to get established and babies stomach is very small right now formula does keep baby fuller longer but its a trade off for preparing warming and washing bottles all the time! It took a few weeks to get where I didnt feel like my son was attached at the boob 24/7 but dont give up momma it does get better and there are so many positives to it not just that its made for baby. Its true what they say though, screw the dishes and nap when baby naps!

I'm going to breastfeed my daughter as well. My doctor told me we will be feeding our babies more often than babies that drink formula due to the amount of milk our breasts produce. At first we produce just enough to fill their little tummies. As they grow we will begin to produce more milk to fill them longer. :) hope that helps....welcome to mommy hood even tho I have 5 weeks left lol :)
