First pregnancy I did not have a cerclage and dialated 3cm at 19 weeks and was fully effaced. I remained on bedrest the entire time and delivered at 32 weeks.
Second I had the cerclage and only shortend not dialted - full term with him.
Currently 19 weeks cerclage in at 12 and so far all is okay - just follow their instructions and you should be fine... are you contracting at all?
No I am not contracting at all but always have a fear of that...Docs said that i am FUNNELING but I dont know what is funneling, effaced or dilation.these r all new terms for me..but yes docs has asked me for complete bedrest from now onwards till the delivery.
THANKS alot for your help & advice.
i have had a cerclage with 3 my my pregnancys 2 of the outcomes were good my 3rd i lost 2 weeks ago not due to the cerclage but it was something diff anyway i went into preterm labor with my first one at 30 weeks was dialated 3cm but bed rest was what they told me to do and it helped i know its hard to lay around in bed with so much to do but look at what the end result will be good luck
Hey thanks for your views..but so sorry for your recent loss.
pls.tell me what is the diff.between dilation, effaced or funneling
Good luck to u all pregos..
Correct me if I am wrong.... Funneling happens when the cervix shortens with pressuer - they do a vaginal u/s on me and press on my belly to simulate pressure if I was standing and the cervix shortens and opens on the inside. Effaced is when everything is thinned out and dialation is when your cervix opens... It can open internally (closest to the baby) and not be open externally (the part facing your vagina) . I found out I was contracting when i went to labor and delivery for monitoring - because I was tiny and not far along the montior was not on the proper spot so all looked well for the first couple of hours.. then the dr came in and moved it and found out I was . I found out for me that when I have a lot of pressure in my pelvic floor, bad back cramps that won't give up no matter what position I am in and the baby feels like it is curling into a ball that I am contracting - it is not painful and they are not Braxton Hicks because they are actually shortening and opening the cervix - at least that is how my preterm labor/delivery went.. Bed rest worked for me... I was in the hospital and had daily shots of tubuterline (spelling?) and that controlled the contractions - once I had magnesium sulfate (again, spelling) and that stopped the hard labor I had at 26 weeks.. Couple courses of steriods and she was born at 32 weeks emergency c section (footling breech --feet first) after only 3 hard contractions.. went from 4cm to 9cm ... Please keep in touch and good luck..
amineenkc - I am sorry for your loss.
pls tell me what kind of bedrest u were suggested?I mean what were the restrictions like bath, food etc?
For my first - without the cerclage I was on strict bedrest in the hosptial. I did not get up out of bed for anything.. finally after 5 weeks of that and I hit 24 wks pregnant they let me get a shower every few days - I just had sponge baths in my bed and sheets changed daily. I used a bed pan the firt 5 weeks too.. after the baby is considered viable, 24 weeks, they let me use a latrine - a portable potty next to my bed...finally at 26 weeks after I had to be administered magnesium to stop labor I was able to sit up in bed because of fear of fluid in my lungs (the entire time prior my bed was in trendelenberg.. head down feet up)... then at 30 weeks I was permitted to use the bathroom as needed and shower daily. She was born at 32 weeks. THAT IS AN EXTREAME CASE... she was footling breech - both feet were in the birth canal with a high risk of cord prolapse... with my son I was on modified bedrest at home for 8 weeks.. I got up every morning from my bed and laid on the sofa all day. Food was placed out for me by my husband so I did not have to get up.. I only got up to use the bathroom.. At 28 weeks I convinced my dr to let me return to work as I have an office job and if I did have anything go wrong at least there were people there that could take me to the hospital as when I was home I was alone!!
So far with this one 19w5days.. no bedrest yet. Woke up this am with pain and contractions and some light pink discharge... I will see how it plays out through the day and call my dr if things get worse... I found for me personally if I just give it a little time things (contractions, back pain and cramps) calm down with water, laying on my side and relaxing... but that is me.. and having spent all that time with nurses and drs with my first one.. I know what to do to slow things if I can... if not I go to the hospital!! Did not mean to scare you .. but again.. that was an extreame case because of her postion my dialation and contractions and the cord being below her.
Thank you so much...but ye all the best to u too,i hope everything will be fine at your end.when u were on moderate bed rest, what was your regular position for taking rest?i mean did u lay down the full day or sometimes u sit also?Because i m having a 4 yr.old child who also wants some attention from me so i have to get up some times to play a little bit with her.i donno whether i can sit that much or not...Your views r helping me alot pls.be in touch..
It really depends on the type your doctor prescribes - some can be resting a few hours a day to full bedrest with NO ability to get up. It was okay to be in the hosptial on full strict bedrest because I had no other children.. With my 2nd it was modified bedrest - which I could do at home is absolute minimal activity - no lifting, climbing steps, only driving to dr appoinment, no standing for longer than 5 mins. I am hoping if I have to do bedrest again for this one my dr will let me do partial with sitting for a while (working) and laying down periodically.. but it all depends on the risk your doctor assses you at. If they do prescribe bedrest - following the instructions - At 4 years old he/she will be able to help themselves somewhat - juiceboxes, packed lunches, snacks placed low in the kitchen to limit your time up.... my littlest is 5 and he helps me when I am cramping and lying down .. he gets me water and a blanket.. they really love to take care of mommy....
I'm reading your conversations and I do see it was a year ago and wanted to see if y'all would get my message. I am 18 weeks on bed rest and had the cerclage in at 15 weeks and had funneling at 14 weeks still with some funneling now. In my first pregnancy I lost my son at 20 weeks not knowing anything about cervical incompetence im now on bed rest and scared everyday about loosing my babygirl now.. If y'all read this can y'all tell me how everything worked out and what steps y'all took to get through this. Please I would greatly appreciate it as I have noone I know I'm my circumstances.
