CVS testing

I am hitting 12 weeks & I'm scheduled for a CVS test or amniocentesis exam this week, my MIL tells me I don't need to have those exams unless I was told to be a high risk which I haven't.. what do I do? It's my first baby & I'm only 24; has anyone had these tests done before? ?

You definitely do not need an amniocentesis if you aren't high risk!
