I had a U/S around 5 1/2 weeks and saw only a sac. then 8 or 9 days later I saw my baby and heartbeat!
"Uterus is enlarged and there is an intra uterine pregnancy."
This is just stating the appearance of your uterus. It is normal showing pregnancy.
"There is an echolucent gestational sac seen with in the uterus."
They see the gestational sac......showing pregnancy
"G.S. 23mm corresponding to 6wks 1day +/- 11days of POA."
The gestational sac is 23mm. Which dates your pregnancy at 6 weeks 1 day.
"No evidence of fetal node seen"
They didn't see a fetal node or body. This is very normal and you may just need more time for it to show.
"LRMP EDD- 01.12.2009 US EDD - 05-01-2010"
Based on your Last Reported Menstrual Period Estimated Due Date is Jan 12, 2009. The UltraSound Estimated Due Date is May 1, 2010.
"US Age 6 wks 1day"
Ultrasound gives the age of your pregnancy of 6 weeks 1 day
"DIAGNOSIS : Empty sac / early pregnancy. POA app 6wks 1day .Suggest clinical correlation and if clinical indicated suggest a repeat scan to see the viability of the fetus"
Because the sac didn't show a fetal node they are recommending that you have a follow up ultrasound which is normal when they don't see one. They may have you come back in a week or maybe even a few days.
Like the others said- they saw a sac that measures 6 weeks 1 day. Should be able to see the baby and even a heartbeat in another week or two via vaginal ultrasound.
The last part, the Diagnosis, simply states that you should come back to verify "viability" (whether baby is alive) if your doctor recommends it.
Did your doctors not explain any of this to you?
It means that they see the sac but not the fetus, they will need to do another scan in a couple of weeks to see if the fetus is present and there's a heartbeat.
It, in my opinion, looks like you are six weeks and one day pregnant according to the u/s, and they did not see a baby when they did it, although they did see the sac the baby would be in. I've seen a lot of posts telling women to wait to do anything about this until they have another u/s as the baby may not be able to be seen yet. That's what I get out of it, hopefully some of the other ladies who have been in your position read this and reply, I've not had an u/s like this, but that's what it looks like to me.
