I know all too well how fast labor can progress....mine aren't QUITE that fast, but faster than most.  What I don't understand is the stupidity factor in NOT PULLING OVER AND STOPPING.  I mean come on.  Talk about endangering people.  Even if you ARE one of the elite few who has very little pain, just the fact that you have a baby coming out of you is distracting enough....but to be flying down the highway, yeah, wow.  Doula, you said it...she's not the brightest crayon in the box.

Ok wow! Thats crazy!!! For some reason everytime I put in the web address I kept getting something about an oil spill. But I did google it and it was here in Minnesota!! I mean I know some of us Minnesotans are a little nutz but wow!!  The husband should have insisted on driving, I mean come on, your on your way to L&D for goodness sakes! I would have probably been crazy enough to drive myself before but thankfuly DH never even gave me that option:~) Glad to hear all is okay!!

As a doula I have seen women go from 5cm to 10cm in under 30 minutes.  It happens.  Contractions are not the only way to measure labor.  There are women who have intense contractions 2 minutes apart for 4 hours and don't dilate at all.  There are women who don't feel contractions until after they push (myself).  Everything is relative.  When you start feeling like you need to poop - thats when you know you need to pull over!!!  She obviously knew the baby was coming because she had time to adjust her seat and set the cruise.  Sorry, this lady isn't the brightest crayon in the box.

apparently she felt they were leaving in plenty of time, that she was still in the early stages of labor, that's why she was driving.  But on the way her water broke and almost instantly the baby was coming out.  So her story goes.

Sorry, meant to say than risk HIM driving. Still, I think they should have called an ambulance in this situation. Paramedics are trained on delivering babies. .What if the baby would have had the umbilical cord around it's neck or something? What if she would have jerked the wheel and killed them all?! I wonder if they realize how fortunate they really are here?

I saw this on the news last night and couldn't believe it! They said she picked up her husband to go to the hospital because she was in labor and that he didn't drive because he was prone to seizures and I'm thinking "OK, so it's better to give birth while driving than risk?! Which is worse?" Goodness! In that situation I think she should have just called an ambulance. I can't even imagine how this was possible! Crazy!

You guys expressed my thoughts exactly.  Who in their right mind even attempts to deliver a baby going 70 miles an hour down the interstate??? I don't care HOW easy the birth was, it's extremely distracting to be delivering your child while driving...far more so than texting or talking on the phone.  I was talking to my mom about this yesterday and told her that I'm just not sure exactly how much of this story I believe.

It's definately crazy tho!!

DoulaSummer: I COMPLETELY agree.  I am EXTERMELY anal about the carseat thing...I've chewed out many a people, my DH included for not putting kids in their seats properly.

Bless her heart.  I cannot imagine how empowered she felt, but what she did is completely dangerous.  There is NO reason for her to not pull over.  The idea of her holding her newborn in her arms and driving at 70 mph makes me want to vomit.

Side note:  I wish she would correctly use her car seat :(  The straps were very lose and would lead to a baby coming completely out of the seat in an accident.

yeah I was thinking why she didn't just pull over and call an ambulance while listening to the story. I also was wondering why her husband wasn't driving but they explained that.
