Cervix check

Today at my 39 week check up I got surprised with a cervix check. Never had one before and it was so uncomfortable/painful! But, turns out I'm almost 3 cm dialted (: But ever since it happened I've been cramping and the middle of my lower back is KILLING me. I can barely move because of the pain. Also caused pelvic, hip, and butt pain. He said it could cause contractions and spotting but I haven't had either. Then again, I'm clueless when it comes to contractions. Is all of this normal after getting your cervix checked?
