Confirmed Pregnant

It is confirmed I am pregnant and I have a Dr.'s appointment in a week. Being 35, I wonder what my chances are of miscarriage. I am also a smoker and have quit but worry if I have done any damage already. I have so many questions and need some advice. I can't wait a week to ask questions that are driving me crazy now.

A neighbor of ours also smoked through her entire pregnancy. He did come about a month early and was fairly small, but he is fully developed and healthy. You quit so early that I'm sure your risk of complications is minimal.

Your odds of a healthy pregnancy -- at any age -- far outweigh the probability that you will have a problem. So congrats and have fun!

At 35 your odds of miscarriage are only slightly higher than a female who is younger. For example, a 20 year old has a 15% chance of miscarriage and a 35 year old has a miscarriage chance of 20%. It's not likely that smoking will have done much, if even any harm. It's wonderful that you quit, as it is best for your body and especially for the baby. If you have any other questions, never hesitate to post them and we'll do our best to help you out. Congratulations on your pregnancy!
