Contractions before water break??

I'm 36 weeks tomorrow and a ftm and I was wondering if you can have contractions before your water breaks? Because I keep having Braxton hicks contractions but my water hasn't broke and they are becoming more and more severe...

Typically your labor starts before your water breaks.. Less then 10% of women's water breaks on it's own before labor. I'm on child number 3 and never has my water broke b4 labor began.
