Contractions?

I'm 31 weeks pregnant and this is my first pregnancy, so I'm a little confused on what a Braxton hicks is and  how to know the difference between that and a real contraction. If someone could explain to me how they feel please. Also I have been having cramps in my sides that feel like menstrual cramps. At first I thought it was round   ligament pain but it's much more intense and persistent, and the pain will come and go, so are those contractions?

If those are Braxton hicks they have been lasting about 2 minutes and less than 5 minutes apart.

I think they are Braxton hicks, because you are still 31w but if you start feeling the pain for longer time, stronger and stronger and  not ceasing  you could possibly be in early labor but hold the pain this your body is preparing for your baby's arrival. Best of luck(:

Sorry I'm worried because it keeps happening and really close together, so I'm worried to know if I need to go into the hospital.
