Contractions?

I've been having on and off pains that started 12 minutes apart and noe they are 5 min apart but they only last about 20seconds. Are these contractions? I'm 38+6

No those are contractions. Mine were 2-3 minutes apart lasting only 30 seconds and when I went in I was a 5 and I had my son 2 hours later.

Call the hospital first and talk to a nurse. I was experiencing the same thing and when I went in I discovered that I was already 6cm! I was 40w5d

It's always best to go in if you are not sure if you're in labor. The worst that can happen is they send you back home.

Should I just go in? They are becoming more painful and they are starting to make my back super tense and hurting really bad

If they're consistently five minutes apart, call your doctor. If the office is closed, call the labor and delivery/ob floor of your chosen hospital. Or your birthing center if that's what you chose.

Well these are painful but they just don't last long. And my doctor told me Braxton hicks aren't supposed to be painful

They're probably braxton hicks contractions. Cal your doc/midwife if they last longer and start getting painful
