Could I be pregnant?

I have been off of birth control for about a year due to blood clots in my lungs.  So My husband and I have been using different methods of protection.  I am about a week late getting my period.  The one time my husband and I did use a different form of BC was about 2 1/2 weeks ago.  I took a HPT but it was negative.  I have gained 3lbs, for no reason at all, I have started to feel the urge to go to the bathroom more extremely tired and have had tender breast as well as milk discharge.  I also have a three year old who I stopped breast feeding 2 1/2 years ago.  Could there be a chance that I might be pregnant even though the HPT was negative?

I took the hpt yesterday.  I also forgot to mention that I have been very nauseous with the certain smell of foods that never really bothered me before.
