I finally listened....

Well I took all your advise and got the ball rolling. Have my first dr. appt on tuesday 830am though ugh. My only real question is the lady at the front desk told me they only do one ultrasound and its not until way later in the pregnancy.... Well my question is... Isn't the ultra sound how they measure and tell you how far along baby is as well as other things? Why would they only do one i'm not even 100% on how far along we are or anything. All I know is its deffinatly there. Haha. I was rather hoping for an ultrasound to see how my fiance would react in actually seeing his baby. Maybe he'd change his mind about not being ready once it was for real to him. I think right now its just not for real still... Does that even make since? I need lots of help, my poor mind can not make out left from right these days. i'm pretty sure this baby is blowing my mind.

I see so it just depends. And to mandalynn... I wasn't diagnosed til I was 15. But my mother and both my grandmothers had it. My mother didnt know until after she had my first brother so I dont think they ever checked when I was born. But my grandparents have had it for as long as i've been around. Everything i've read online as terrifying. I'm rather scared to hear what the dr has to say considering I'm 12w 3d (according to my watch).

If you have hyperthyrodism you need to be seen asap because it can cause problems with the pregnancy. Money should never matter when it comes to your health. Also tell your doctor you dont know how far along you are and they will do a dating ultrasound. Dont wait on your care.

My dr office only does 1 ultrasound, but scheduled me for a dating ultrasound a week after my first appointment because I wasn't sure how far I was- I have irregular periods. It was a good thing because I was further than I thought! Turns out I was 8w 4d when I thought I was maybe 6-7 weeks. So, your dr may do the same.

I went to a place that did 3d ultrasounds with my first and it was great. You have to pay but my doc gave me two us but both earlier in the preg. so I went a paid for one its not that much like $90, u could also go to one of them womens resource places and get one for free, get online and research both of these, good luck.

It is pretty typical to only get one scan at around 20 weeks. This is a dull scan that checks measurement and can confirm sex. However is there is concern or your dates are off, your Dr may order one the confirm gestational age. Also, some tests require an ultrasound. With my firsti only had one scan at 18 weeks because there was nothing to warrant another one. With this pregnancy, I've had three because Dr couldn't hear heartbeat externally and a week later I had a large ovarian cyst rupture. I won't have another scan until 20 weeks and will not have another after as long as everything is normal. It all depends on your Dr and how invasive they technique is. Also, many insurance plans only cover one ultrasound for a normal pregnancy.

My boyfriend also has hypothyroid and honestly. The doctor scared the day lights out of me when we discussed it so I don't want to get you overwhelmed... talk to your doctor. From my understanding as long as they aware of it they will test the baby as soon as it comes out to take care of it then... as long as they catch it right away it doesn't pose a threat.. now were you born with it or did you develop it over time?

Well I think I'm 12 weeks 2 days and this will ne the first appt. Thanks guys I'm switching drs asap which I guess this time means next month when medicaid kicks in no temporary bs. Now I do have hypothyroidism and have not been able to afford my meds I hear this can cause a lot of harm...?

It is typical at our doctor's to not do more than 1 ultrasound, unless concern is warranted. With my first, my cycles were all over the place so they ordered an additional ultrasound after my first appointment for dating purposes. My understanding is that some doctors choose to do more but we have chosen a fairly minimally-invasive doctor who is more akin to a midwife than an ob/gyn.

I was the same way when I first found out I was pregnant.. my mind was boggled I couldn't even get dressed for work without forgetting what I was doing... it gets better. As for the ultrasound that's strange. I had my first one at 10 weeks and that's only because I went to the doctors so late and I have another one in a few weeks... they usually do them throughout the entire pregnancy, if I were you I would check with other doctors in your area. I felt the same way about it not feeling real until I seen it for the first time and it was the best feeling in the world.... good luck

Normally its not until 20wks for the anatomy scan, where they measure everything.   But you could ask him to go with you in the morning... most drs have a doppler thing that you can hear the heart beat, and depending on how far along you are, you'll be able to hear it.  And so can he!  that may make it seem real to him.
Good luck in the morning
