D & C What To Expect....

Hello Everyone,
Well I have to have a D & C done at the end of this week... I was just wondering if any of you have had to do it and if so what to expect. I was told there is to different sedation I can choose from. Both of which I am awake for. One is given by IV and the other is a pill. I fear the noise of the machine and knowing whats coming and being done... And advise would be greatly appreciated... Thanks much to all !!!

Thank you everyone. I dont think I have the option of going to sleep or else I think Id maybe do that. Im thinking the IV sedation might be the strongest though. I fear the sound of the machine... Ive never had to do a D & C before... :(

I had a D&C also except i didnt get an option of being awake or asleep i guess because
i was 18 at the time and was freaking out about the whole situation
but you'd think it'd be easier being asleep for this but then again i've read where some ladies prefer to be awake i guess just knowing whats going on might be a sort of relief

um i member i went in that morning and they admitted me to a room and a little while later they came and took me and gave me an IV
also i put on a mask and after like 10 seconds i was out

i woke up to some pretty bad cramping not too extreme but it was their
and went home like an hour later
they also prescribed me 2 antibiotics i cant remember the names
but one was for pain and the other i cant remember either
wow i cant think today
but anyways you'll bleed afterwards
on everyone it varies i bled for like 2 weeks and spotted afterwards

but its not that bad i member i was extremely scared to the point where an extra nurse was needed to help administer the IV because i was shaking so bad
but after done and said yea its something i wouldnt wanna go through again
but its not all that bad

sorry you have to go through this and good luck with everything!

My D&C was a quick and painless procedure. I was put to sleep though so I am not sure how it would be when awake? I actually ha to have two for the same baby a week apart but my situation was very uncommon I think. The first recovery was not very good as I was continuing to bleed very heavy and the second was successful recovery and I was back to my old self again within 24-48 hours. I wish you all the best and know that soon enough you will have a little one growing in your belly again. Hugs to you.
