DO NOT TAKE ZOFRAN

Hi ladies, I just heard on the news yesterday that they are stopping Zofran for pregnant women because it causes cleft palates, heart murmurs, still borns and more. Zofran isn't suppose to be used for pregnant women but for cancer patients. It was never meant to be consumed by a pregnant woman but the pharmaceutical company paid off a lot of doctors to give it to pregnant women. If you took it in the first trimester and your baby has holes in their heart or something else, please call your doctor or a lawyer!

It amazes me that some women just don't care that this company was doing something they shouldn't have been doing.  What's wrong with these people?  Unbelievable. I was given Zofran when I was pregnant with twins, and I was reassured that it was fine to take.  No one told me that it wasn't approved by the FDA for pregnant women. I'm appalled.  My daughter aspirates when she drinks. This has been an issue since birth. This condition greatly increases her chances of getting pneumonia. It's been no picnic managing her condition. How do I know if this wasn't due to the Zofran. There was some concern about my son's kidneys, that one side was larger than the other. Luckily it started to grow and things are fine for him. So don't tell me that people don't need to be made aware.  It does help to know what caused your child's condition.

It's not the lawyer suing. The drugmaker GlaxoSmithKline pleaded guilty in 2012 to paying out doctors 1 billion dollars to give out drugs that weren't approved by the fda including Zofran and it has been going on since 1992. They also payed 3 billion dollars as part of legal settlement for fraud. It was never approved by the fda and now they are trying to find the women that have suffered.

These side effects are very rare.  Sure, it would be awful if it affected anyone negatively.  However, doctors weight risk to benefit and if the benefit outweighs the potential risk that is MINOR/RARE---  they continue to use the product.  Zofran has minimal risk.  The number of people that have been helped by Zofran is insurmountable compared to those harmed.

I don't think anyone should get their information from  google or tv  and we should all talk to our own doctors as our best source of information.

By the way, the FDA acts when there is a known risk and especially regarding pregnancy categories.  Again, just because a lawyer sues does NOT mean there is true science to back it up.

I really wish people would stop arguing about this yes all drugs have side effects and usually it is a combo of the meds and ur genetic make up which is why some people have good reactions and some have bad reactions if u have been personally effected by this drug that is really sad and if u haven't that's a wonderful thing let's just agree to disagree on how good or bad zofran is

There was a lawsuit recently for the manufacturer of Motrin for children. It was found out that metal shavings were being put into it and sadly the guy just pleaded guilty and he says he knew about it for a year. Also the fda has made warnings about zofran since 2013. because physicians started giving a drug to pregnant women that was meant for cancer patients so they did a study and found out it was causing cleft palate and all those other defects to unborn children that didn't have that genetic disorder in the family. I feel really bad for the family's that have suffered being exposed to this drug and it causes them side effects. To the people that got lucky and it didn't cause any harm you shouldn't be boasting/bragging. Children are suffering from this drug! And just because you got lucky does not mean that it is safe. This isn't a commercial for the inconvenience of women to just get money out of it. This is a true statement but you have your heads so far up your *** believeing that whatever a doctor gives you is safe. Nothing is safe but there are some serious issues with this drug. Wanna know why they haven't taken it away from pregnant women? Because you are their guinea pigs. you are part of the study!

I'm so sick of seeing this. -_- zofran has side effects, EVERY PILL HAS SIDE EFFECTS. But that does not mean it will happen. Jeeze people. Do you believe everything google tells you too??

If there was a real risk that the FDA agreed with then the drug would receive a different pregnancy category and/or black box warning.  Just because a lawyer sues does not make it a scientific fact.

Everyone should speak to their own doctor. That is just one of those class action lawsuit things which does not correlate to safety all the time.  I used zig ran in both my pregnancies with no issue.  So speak to your doctor about it.

Everything you put into your body has some kind of risk, whether it be food, water, medicine....even things such as air, the sun.

The truth is everything effects everyone in some way, but each person has a different reaction. I took zofran with my first pregnancy, my baby girl was born at 22 weeks and was perfect for her gestational age. My preterm labor was caused by an infection.

The commericals are there becausw there are SOME people who had babies that were born with cleft lip...heart mumors...and other stuff that is linked to zofran...so legaly they have to warn everyone of the chances that if you consum this med. During pregnancy then your baby could be born with these effects

There is a commercial for every drug out there. Its your decision not to take it, but you shouldn't try to scare other women too. Dehydration from excessive vomiting causes plenty of its own problems

I took Zofran for 23 weeks non stop. 2-3 tablets a day everyday. My baby is as healthy as can be! Kkay18, I don't think your in a position to say you would not take zofran when you have not experienced the consequences of life threatening morning sickness. I was hospitalized and fed via tube because my morning sickness was so bad. It was either Zofran or me and my baby die from malnutrition.

I personally am taking zofran. I have morning sickness to the point of not keeping water down ans if my doctor(the same dr that delievered me almost 22 yrs ago) prescribed me it i trust her judgement. Its either i take it and be able to drink water and eat or dont and end up in the hospital rele sick which is a higher risk to my baby in my point of view. We all have are opinions. Does the commercials worry me? Of course im a ftm and pregnant. Do i continue to take it WHEN and IF i need it. Yes i make sure everyday its to the point of not keeping water down.

To each their own.  I took it for a couple weeks.  Know people that had pumps that had it constantly and their babies were fine.  If you don't want to take a chance then that's ok too.  You do what's best for you.  We are worried about our babies either way around.  That's our job as mommas.  Everyone should do their own research rather than relying on a random post on this app or a tv commercial.    Make your own decisions. You're a grown woman.

Eh but then again I'm guessing you are in the US and they deliberatelyy dumped agent Orange during the Vietnam war knowing that their own soldiers were down there and that **** causes cancer and stillborns and birth defects so when it comes to the US nothing would suprise me

Anyone ever think there are people looking for something to blame? What if your child has cleft for another reason? If it were truly the cause I.don't even think that medication would be recommended at all.

Yeah they wouldn't have it on the tv aid warning people if there was more than one case of it and I would take that or any medications with that serious of a warning it might now effect every baby but it strongly could so that's a big no

All medicine has possible side effects. Like asprin thins your blood and isn't good ymfor your liver chemotherapy destroys your immune system birth control can give you polycystic ovaries ... There's a risk with anything sometimes you just have to way up if it's worth it.

Personally...I wouldn't take it if theres even a slight chance of it causing these life time effects on my baby...I'm 32 weeks and never had morning sickness but if I did I would be too scared to take it...I see the zofran commercial come on like 4 times a day and if they just try to scare people they doing a good job.

It's great that your babies and your families babies all came out healthy.  That's the best news in the world. However that doesn't mean zofran is harmless.  Let's not make those people who do have difficulties to do with because of zofran feel like they are not valid.  Not everything has the same effect on everyone.

My sister took Zofran her entire first trimester for sickness and my nephew was born perfect. I took it my entire first trimester and my son looks great on 3D ultrasound. I don't think its as common as they're making it out to be, but I hope that anyone's child who was born with these conditions, gets what they deserve and contact a lawyer.

Those ambulance chaser commercials are just there to scare people. I have to take zofran for my morning sickness because no other medications or remedies my doctor and I have tried were successful. Without the zofran, literally nothing stays down. As far as I'm concerned, a  minescule risk of a cleft lip is a better option for my baby and I than a miscarriage from malnutrition. I trust my doctor to put my baby's safety first.
