Please help! I am so worried it's drivine me crazy!! Pap smear during pregnancy.

I am so worried.

I had my first doctors app today and a pap smear was preformed. I am 12 weeks. After the doctor completed the test I began to bleed. The bleeding went away and now i see a slight brown discharge. It comes and goes throughout the day. I am so scared because I have just been through a miscarriage not too long ago and I have heard stories of miscarriages after a pap smear. Please someone, give me your story. I can't sleep because I am so worried.

I was the same way as you are when it came to pap smears while pregnant and even with this pregnancy i wont allow a pap smear to be done. But with my son i got one done and i bled after too and got super scared cuz like you i have had 2 miscarriages. The doctor said all was fine i just could have been bleeding because you are being opened wider from the whole pap smear. Brown blood means old blood so it could be just cleaning your system and getting the rest out. Also cramps are very normal in pregnancy as long as there is no clotting involved. I am 8 weeks and get tons of cramps. Just means your uterus is stretching :) Dont stress about it too much hun :) If your really worried then go get some reassurance from your doctor

Pap smears dont cause miscarriages. In pregnancy our cervixs are softer and more easily irritated and its not uncommon to have spotting after an internal exam or even sex.

"During pregnancy, it is likely that your health care provider will want to do a pap smear. A pap smear is considered routine for a pregnant woman. A pap smear does not create any risks to you or to your fetus. If your pap smear comes back with an abnormal result during pregnancy, your health care provider will probably discuss possible treatment options that are safe for you during pregnancy, or discuss the possibility of delaying any treatments until after you have your baby. If there are serious problems, it is possible that your health care provider might want to do an internal biopsy. This type of procedure does present some risk of pregnancy complications, and you should discuss these risks with your health care provider. "

It is normal to have spotting or even light bleeding after exam. During pregnancy cervix is very soft and gets irritatated easily. Try to relax. If you are very worried call your doctor to ease your mind Good luck with rest of your pregnancy.

I have had a MC 2 years ago so after I got a pap smear and seen blood I too freaked. I got on here and asked the same question and received alot of compassionate answers as to it being VERY normal and if your really worried call your Dr.

Hope that the spotting stops soon and you can stop worring. Although the worring never really stops.
