Diapers

I had my baby shower saturday and I got a box of NB size diapers. The comment was made by a few moms that there babies never wore that size and hopefully they wont be to small and I actually get to use them. I have 4 boxes of 84 diapers each. They say average of 10-12 diapers a day that a box should last 7 days. I figured I would use NB for the first 3-4 weeks. Maybe I am way wrong.  I also got a couple boxes of size 1's and 2's.

How many of you used NB size diapers and for how long.

My daughter only used newborn size her first day. She was in size one before we even left the hospital.

Why don't you try cloth diapers instead. They are re-usable and you won't have to worry about the stock. They will cost you less.

I totally forgot about that, I did the same thing. TALK ABOUT SAVINGS! mostly besides church clothes sophie wore onsies the cheap 5-10 packs and  rite away i washed those because i knew she would wear those out. but everything else i did the same thing left the tags on and when she went to wear it wash it if she grew out of the size took it in for another. I dont like going to walmart for many reason but 1 good thing out them is they are very good about baby item exchanges

Thanks everyone. I feel more confident that I will be using most of them now.

I have kept all the tags on clothing and I will be washing them when I find out what size she will be wearing once born. The used clothing that I have been given I already washed though.

I suggest keeping everything with tags and in the boxes until you need them.  I did this with my son because we had SO much clothes.  I washed them as we needed them and when he went to the next size, I would just take back any clothes he didn't wear and get the next size up.  Saved us so much money and didn't waste peoples gifts.  I clothed, but I took back diapers all the time and bought things we actually needed or if I could get a refund put the money towards more cloth diapers.

i used newborn diapers for more than a month.  then we stayed in 1s for a while, then 2s for a while.  Jaedyn is 16 months and is still in 3s and will be there a little longer.

I think many babies do fit into newborn for a while.

My son was 9 lbs. 2 oz. at birth so he never used a NB size.  He was in a size 1 right away.  Keep them and see how much you get from them.  If you can't use all of them, see if you can give them to a friend.  Any unopened boxes perhaps you can donate them.

My now almost 5 months old was 6lbs. 11ozs. at birth and we used the NB diapers for a good month with him.  Our older son was 7lbs. 6ozs. at birth and I think we used them for a couple of weeks at most.  It really depends on how big your baby is.  We actually never bought any NB size diapers with our first son - we just used leftover boxes that friends gave us, people who had already had babies and never used up their supply.  We had to buy about 4-5 packages with our second son.

both of my children weighed 7'4 and nb were too big!! I used premie diapers until the first month or so then switched to nb for the next month or two!! so keep them!! the nb are also good bc they have the umbilical cord cut out for the new babies!!

I never used them, my son was big or anything, he was born 7 11.. but at the hospital they just started using 1s so i kept with it when he got home.. we had a few boxes of NB from my baby shower. but they wernt the brand i wanted so I didnt mind giving them away. I had 3 other friends pregnant at the same time as me so I gave them to them.. lol

My Daughter was 8 weeks early - I used them for months.. you never know... the only thing I noticed is when they got close to the higher end of the weight limit ( I used 3 lbs) they leaked more... so when I would get them weighed at the drs and they were 3lbs close I moved up a size...

i never had a chance to use them....i got a bunch of boxes of them like you at my baby shower 6 years ago and my son was born "big" ... so i ended up giving them away after he was born and already wearing a size 1

i would def hold onto them and wait and see how big your daughter is when she's born and then you will know how many you need to keep

I've used newborn size for the first 2 wks- month depending on which kid. I would defiantely keep them for now, becuase, like mommashelley said, most stores will let you exchange an unopened package for a different size.  The different' sizes usually cost the same just have fewer diapers as the size goes up.  I would also plan to have a couple packs of size 1 just in case.

keep them. dont give them away or throw them away most walmarts ( i know mine did ) will let you exchange them for the size you need. so keep them in the closet and when you need a new box take one with you to walmart and exchange for the right size. you do not need a receipt to exchange just to return.
