nsrchofbaby:Thanks for clairfying that! God Bless
Okay, I'm gonna weigh in on this as I do live 25 min west of where the woman lived. The following article is spot on with what our local news believes to be the most accurate, up-to-date information regarding the situation. Hope it helps shed some light on the subject.

A Texas woman named Judy Trunnell became the first American citizen to die from swine flu. Trunnell, a 33-year-old teacher, had "chronic health conditions," which may explain why she succumbed to the virus.
Trunnell’s death is especially shocking because she was eight months pregnant, but her child was delivered via caesarian and, we hope, will be completely healthy. The pregnancy, however, may have had something to do with her death, reports CNN:
Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN’s chief medical correspondent, said patients with medical problems often have compromised immune systems that can’t fight off a flu infection.
‘"Pregnant women often, as you may know, are recommended to get the flu shot because their immune systems aren’t as strong either right during pregnancy and immediately thereafter,’ Gupta said. ‘So there may have been several different things going on with her.’
About 1,516 people are infected with the virus worldwide, according to the World Health Organization.

**It's very tragic that this woman passed away but it does help shed some light as to how serious this flu can be. Hopefully people will take the necessary precautions to prevent falling victim to this new flu strain. My prayers are with her family.**
brandy...that's what I was thinking. It said there were other issues (I didn't get a detailed story) so I knew it just wasn't the flu she died from. And yes it did say she had just given birth...but I didn't know it that was before she got sick or what. Thanks for clearing it up. =) The media puts out so many different stories and hardly ever give you the full story.
Ladies,
I agree with you that it is sad, but I need to set the record straight. First of all she was not pregnant. The news stated that she had newly given birth to a healthy baby. Secondly the swine flu is not offically the only cause of her death. She evidently had been very ill and been hospitalized since April 19th. I am also a Texas resident and we have been very fortuate in our area, non of our schools have had any cases at all and my husband is a teacher in that district and they have kept us very informed. I am not meaning to say yall are wrong, but is important that things are talked about the way they really are.

The story I read on msnbc didn't have much detail. Just that she got the flu was in the hospital for two weeks slipped into a coma then they took the baby and she died. I don't think she ever woke up to see the baby.
Blueeyedtabbycat- just be sure to take care of yourself and keep hydrated. I hope you feel better. I know the regular flu has been making the rounds also I hope you get better soon.
Thats so sad! I heard that last night/ early this morning after I finished puking my guts out and it scared to dodo out of me. I just caught the flu (I think ) and I feel horrible, im sure its just the normal flu, I already feel a little better. Has anyone heard how the baby is doing?? How far along was she. I didnt catch the whole story:(
Poor thing. I can't believe that. I currently reside in TX and that is the scariest thing for someone that is trying to conceive. I use hand sanitizer like mad so I hope that will help... My heart goes out to her family!
Yea that's true. It's really sad though that she died after delivery. I can't even imgaine how that family feels right now.
Yeah it said something about her having "other" health conditions. I'm just making sure I take my vitamins, eating lots of foods with vitamin C, and washing those hands like crazy! I think that's all we really can do.
I heard...that was really sad. I am just wasking my hands and keeping things clean, other than, that there isn't much else to do....but I wonder though...they don't always give you the full story and I wonder if she had some sort of complications before hand and then caught the flu as a result? It just seems so strange, like something is missing in that story.
