I had a d& c in February and was at the hospital for about eight hours. The spinal took a bit to wear off. I opted for it because after 5wks nothing happened. Good luck with future pregnancies there is still hope after a mc I'm now 12w0d

Im so sorry for your loss. I had a DNC at a military installation. I see that your husband is in the army as well. I miscarried at 12 weeks 4 months ago. It was a same day procedure for me. I went to sleeo and woke up 30 minutes later. They monitored me for an hour and let me go home. I was on complete pelvic rest for 4 weeks and i am now 6 weeks pregnant again. Best of luck!

I had a missed miscarriage in April and ended up going in for a D&C after the at home drugs to miscarry didn't work.  I was at the hospital for longer than I should have simply because my surgery was delayed 3 hours.  After the surgery I left in 1.5 hours and went home and felt like my old self again!  I had so much energy and felt great.  My husband kept telling me to slow down and chill but I couldn't help it.  I used the ibuprofen from the hospital a week or so later for a headache and I still have some.  I wasn't sore, in pain, nothing.

I'm so sorry.  I too just experience a loss and I so understand how you are feeling right now.

I didn't read all of the responses, so please forgive me if I am repeating any information.

You have a few options, and need to consider which is the best for you.  I have had 4 d & c's, and several natural losses, 2 induced with medication.

You can choose to allow this to happen naturally.  Remember that every loss starts as a missed miscarriage, but eventually your body will sort it out and begin to purge itself (forgive the terminology, it's the best word I could think of).  Usually this happens with no complications, but it can take some time.

You can request medication to speed up the process.  It is the same as a natural, it just tends to be over a little bit faster.

D&C is simply a dialation and then scraping of the uterus.  It essentially performs the same task your period does in getting rid of the lining.  I just had one last week, and can tell you that the recovery is extremely fast.  I opted for that this time as I did not want this to drag into the holidays.

You should ensure that your Dr. presents you with all options, along with the pro's and cons of each for your situation.  And remember, there is no need to make a hasty decision.  This is an emotional time, so decide as you feel comfortable.

I am so very sorry for your loss and wish you peace and healing.  Please take good care of you right now.

since your only measuring at 4 wks it shouldnt take to long once your levels actually start to drop, your body may even start to reabsorb the ovum and you just may have abit of a heavier period, this is what happened to me and I only passed the smallest of clots with my period, Imeasured at 5 wk 2 days, it took about 1 1/2 weeks once my levels started to drop, I ovulated 6 days after my bleeding stopped

It really depends. You could start to miscarry naturally, but it seems like you may have had a missed miscarriage. In which case, you will most likely end up with the pill or a d&c. You'll just have to see what your levels are doing. Most OB's won't let you go beyond two weeks after they've confirmed a missed miscarriage before they recommend medical intervention. It's anyone's guess as to how long it's going to take.

((hugs))

I had a similiar situation to this occur to me in April/May. Levels did not rise and after several U/S it was clear there was no development. I elected for a D&C because I was getting as far as 10 weeks or so along and my body showed no signs of anything occuring. Also I show early and I was starting to get a belly and didnt want to deal with waiting longer. My procedure was very quick, and I was in recorvery for about an hour and then went home. I felt tired that day and pretty much sat around and napped but next day I felt fine physically except that I was still bleeding. I did what the Dr. asked and did not start trying to get pregnant again until I had a period. After I got a period we started trying again and it only took me two cycles and I am now 23 weeks. You obviously have to do what you feel comfortable with but I figured I would share my experience.

In two weeks they should have risen much, much more than they have. With as slowly as they're increasing, it is not positive.

Honestly it sounds like they're already dropping. They haven't increased enough over the last two weeks. It should double every two days an it hasn't doubled at all. :(

I would expect them to be higher then what they were at your first beta. What are they now?

They might not ever. Some women will not naturally miscarry. Did they give you exact numbers of what they are at?

i know thats why i choose nature to take it path. here when they give you this medication they keep you in for an hour and then if you still do not miscarry the baby they keep you in for 12/24 hrs. i actually hate the fact that when i am passing my baby i ll be away from my husband and i ll be crying infront of strangers who will not give damn about me or my feelings lol. sorry i know how i sound like. but i kind feel like i will not be having any choice. unless as i said my light period bleeding became heavy before my scan on friday. or even she saw free fluid which will be blood than i will not go for medication. i am sure she will be able to see some reduction in pregnancy size.
i am just waiting for things to happen honestly, i have left everything in hands of God.
thankyou for your concern though :D i feel great to have such support :)

Hope I'm not being paranoid or freaking you out Sakazmi, but I've heard some VERY dangerous things about misoprostol -- check it out online. It carries some serious risks to the mother and there has been a petition to the FDA for years to take it off the market. I know most of this issues are related to women being in labour taking it but I'd research it before taking it. Good luck!

I was given cytoteq when I miscarried and I was sick as hell. If you CAN I would highly recommend letting your body do this naturally....but some people can't handle the emotional trauma of waiting, and there's a lot to be said for getting it over with.

Either way...best of luck making your decision.

i think theres one other way as well. i was suggested to take medication route in which i was suppose to take misoprostol for MC. i stopped growing at 8 weeks and baby was measuring 6wks 5 days. from 1.12.11 i have waited two weeks for nature to take it course. i know wait and watch is tough route but it gives you peace of mind and assurety that whatever happened it was happened naturally. i had spotting for a week fri-fri than i started light periods and i am still on it. i haven't passed any tissues or clots. but it should happen soon. on friday i have got scan and if by than i did not pass tissues i will be taking medication. here in uk they do not actually recommend d&c. they prefer either nature take it course or medication. medicine only helps you to open cervix. other is all same natural process. you start bleeding heavily and all tissues of pregnancy are out and then you bleed for few days and after that you go back to normal process. if you can not wait i would say choose medical route. but its your choice completely. we can only suggest what could be best for you.
