It doesn't require a hospital stay unless complications occur, and can be done in either the doctors office or a hospital.

Basically what they will do is have you lie down similar to when you have a pap done. They will then dilate the cervix and scrape/suction out the lining and tissue. Some doctors will use local anesthetics or some will completely sedate the female. You will have to ask what their stand on that is, and if they do not offer it what you should take beforehand. You'll then be sent home and spend the day taking it easy. Most procedures happen in under an hour (or less) and recovery is very fast. You might also cramp and bleed for awhile. Some do and some will not.

It's generally a same day procedure. Like Clysta said, check with your doctor about their sedation protocol on d&c. Some do, some don't.

I'm not sure yet what they r gonna do, she said my levels went up but not a lot so she's taking my blood one more time to make sure it's a miscarriage

I see.  Sometimes they will also try medication to expel the fetus instead of doing a dnc.

I had a dnc due to a miscarriage at 12 weeks and I stayed overnight, they let me go home the next day. I am sorry for your loss.

Just wanted to say that I'm sorry for your loss. You can also elect to let nature run its course -- some people say that dncs are not good for you/your uterus, but its your choice to make. If you do elect to let it happen naturally they will monitor you to ensure that you are not risking infection. Take care.

as your not that far along, you most probably have a blighted ovum, you could wait and let that happen naturally, as once your levels start dropping it shouldnt take too long for you to miscarry

i wont tell you what to do.. but i would wait it out for now and let nature take its course.. doing it natural may hurt more but the recovery is faster and you can usually start trying to conceive right away..

with a d&c most go good but there is always a chance that something bad will happen.. SOme people get scarring that prevents them from other pregnancy and they say its only 1% but alot of studies say its more liek 13%...  it is really rare.

I had a d&c and it went well.. THe procedure itself, took 15 minutes.. I was in recovery for an hour and a bit.. I went home that night, didnt take anything but tylenol. my hospital gave the option of local or sedation for the procedure.. i was scared so i went out....  i went back to work 3 days later... and bleed for about a week and a half..

after my d&c my doctor recommended waiting at least 3 cycles to ttc .. we waited 2 then it took 3 cycles to conceive again.  if you try too soon after a d&c sometimes  it turns out fine but there is the risk that your uterine lining is too thint o support a pregnancy (i think this occurs more in the scraping... but you risk retained tissue with the suctioning).

Whatever you decide make sure you are set on it becuase you dont want any what ifs after this...  TOns of d&cs are done on a daily basis and most of them have no complications BUT right now being so early, it would probably be better for your body to take care of it on its own and if in a couple weeks nothing has happen then consider a d&c..

I got mine done because my sac stopped growing at 7 weeks and i was suppose to be 12 weeks around and at that point hadnt shown any signs of something being wrong.

i think theres one other way as well. i was suggested to take medication route in which i was suppose to take misoprostol for MC. i stopped growing at 8 weeks and baby was measuring 6wks 5 days. from 1.12.11 i have waited two weeks for nature to take it course. i know wait and watch is tough route but it gives you peace of mind and assurety that whatever happened it was happened naturally. i had spotting for a week fri-fri than i started light periods and i am still on it. i haven't passed any tissues or clots. but it should happen soon. on friday i have got scan and if by than i did not pass tissues i will be taking medication. here in uk they do not actually recommend d&c. they prefer either nature take it course or medication. medicine only helps you to open cervix. other is all same natural process. you start bleeding heavily and all tissues of pregnancy are out and then you bleed for few days and after that you go back to normal process. if you can not wait i would say choose medical route. but its your choice completely. we can only suggest what could be best for you.

I was given cytoteq when I miscarried and I was sick as hell. If you CAN I would highly recommend letting your body do this naturally....but some people can't handle the emotional trauma of waiting, and there's a lot to be said for getting it over with.

Either way...best of luck making your decision.

Hope I'm not being paranoid or freaking you out Sakazmi, but I've heard some VERY dangerous things about misoprostol -- check it out online. It carries some serious risks to the mother and there has been a petition to the FDA for years to take it off the market. I know most of this issues are related to women being in labour taking it but I'd research it before taking it. Good luck!

i know thats why i choose nature to take it path. here when they give you this medication they keep you in for an hour and then if you still do not miscarry the baby they keep you in for 12/24 hrs. i actually hate the fact that when i am passing my baby i ll be away from my husband and i ll be crying infront of strangers who will not give damn about me or my feelings lol. sorry i know how i sound like. but i kind feel like i will not be having any choice. unless as i said my light period bleeding became heavy before my scan on friday. or even she saw free fluid which will be blood than i will not go for medication. i am sure she will be able to see some reduction in pregnancy size.
i am just waiting for things to happen honestly, i have left everything in hands of God.
thankyou for your concern though :D i feel great to have such support :)

They might not ever. Some women will not naturally miscarry. Did they give you exact numbers of what they are at?

I would expect them to be higher then what they were at your first beta. What are they now?

Honestly it sounds like they're already dropping. They haven't increased enough over the last two weeks. It should double every two days an it hasn't doubled at all. :(

In two weeks they should have risen much, much more than they have. With as slowly as they're increasing, it is not positive.
