Do you think I should have an early scan?

OK, so I am 6weeks tomorrow exactly or obv classed as my 7th week of pregnancy.  April this year I miscarried and i had to pass the sac etc via a 5day hospital stay after discovering the foetus had died at 5-6weeks.  At the time of the miscarriage I should have been 12 weeks and 3days.  So far in the pregnancy I am worrying as last time...the whole time I knew about the pregnancy it had already died...my partner thinks we should wait for the 12 week scan but all the time I'm thinking "are my symptoms less" "do my boobs hurt more/less than yesterday" and things like that.

What do you guys think I should do?

Put your mind at ease and book a sonogram for when you're around 8 weeks. At 8 weeks you should see a little jelly bean (or gummy bear) looking baby with a heartbeat!

I have my midwifes next thursday afternoon but my doctor said nothing, so i'm stumping up the £100 for a private one and then maybe i'll get an nhs (state) one between then and my 12weeks.  I just need to be able to say "i've seen it and it's developing as it should" or know from the start before getting my hopes up again.  Congratulations and over half way! I'm surprised your doctor isn't sending you for a scan I miscarried 5 years ago at 10 weeks when my fetus was only 6 weeks old. So this pregnancy my doctor send me for a scan at 6 weeks and 7 weeks to make sure everything was ok and I'm now 28 weeks. I was scared too thinking that the same thing would happen again especially it taking us so long to get pregnant again. I would ask the doctor to send you or get a private one. Good luck!

That's what we did i had one period then thankfully fell on my 2nd so sending lots of sticky baby dust your way! I just honestly don't think i could do it again...getting to 12weeks to be told "sorry it hasn't developed since you first found out" emotionally I couldn't do that.  Good luck with your TTC x

Hi i had a miscarriage 5 wks ago thought i was 10 wks but baby only measured at 6wks. Im ttc again once this period finishes. I was told that if u have had a previous miscarriage then you can ask to get an earlier scan. I would def get one don't think i could wait the full 12wks.Just relax and take it easy easier said than done i know as when i get pregnant again am going 2 worry the whole time.Hope all goes well and think positive x

Thank you for your input I have booked a scan for next Thursday and I can't wait.  My partner won't take the time off work :( but my dad is going to come with me and aslong as I am reassured then I'm not bothered what he thinks...he wasn't the one who had to get his head around it being dead inside him for the 7-8weeks we had known nor go through the process of "passing" the baby that wasn't to be over 5days in hospital so I've gone for what i wanted and am 100% happier having read it put you ladies minds at rest too :) Thank you x

Hi There! I actually just had a scan done yesterday as I had similar fears (had a miscarriage falls 2009) and was having back aches. It did a lot to put my mind at rest to know that my hcg levels are increasing daily and that the scan looked right on schedule (they couldnt' see much as I am just over 5 weeks, although they dated me at 5.3 weeks as of yesterday).

It helped me to do so -- I hope it helps you too hun!

I voted private as well..... To be honest it would be really really hard for me to wait... I would want to see that all was well and see a little heart beat... If you are like me, it will just be a constant worry until your 12th week.... If you can afford it go for it!

I voted private, that's exactly what i'm doing this saturday as the nhs here don't seem interested in scanning me early despite my 3 previous losses, i have 3 children now, but the fear is still there that everything is ok. I can't wait until 12 weeks....possibly longer. So I will find out on Saturday when I'm not quite 9 weeks. I'd say if you are concerned about if things are progressing go private!
