I'm 18 years old and I'm 12 weeks pregnant, my aunt has Down syndrome and I'm really nervous my baby is going to get Down syndrome because my aunt has it. do I have a higher chance?

Yes its not hereditary. Everyone has 21 chromosomes but people with down syndrome have 22.

Yeah it's not hereditary. So don't panic. It has to do with how your chromosomes and your husband's chromosomes develop together. Idk if I made sense but yeah

DS is in no way hereditary. It is a chromosomal defect present at birth. It just happens. For no reason that can be found with a genetic link. It is more common in pregnancies of women over 35

I hope my baby doesnt. My cousin on my dad side has down sydrome.and my husband cousin has down sydrome too.

You will usually have bloodwork done around 20 weeks to check for that. If there is a chance they may do an amniocentesis or cvs

Get the testing done. I mean your young so the chances are alot smaller. Does anyone else have it in ur family?
