DS is in no way hereditary. It is a chromosomal defect present at birth. It just happens. For no reason that can be found with a genetic link. It is more common in pregnancies of women over 35

You will usually have bloodwork done around 20 weeks to check for that. If there is a chance they may do an amniocentesis or cvs
Get the testing done. I mean your young so the chances are alot smaller. Does anyone else have it in ur family?
