Is it Labor?

I'm 39 weeks 1 day pregnant and I'm experiencing severe back pain and pelvic pressure. Is this a sign that labor is soon to come or am i still a little while away?

Thanks for the advice/knowledge everyone. I spoke to my doctor and he's going to check me out tomorrow to see if i'm dilated anymore. I was dilated 1cm last week. I'm just ready for this baby to come out already!!!

It could be the baby dropping lower.  You will know when labor starts.  It will be on and off period cramps, eventually getting longer and stronger. (i had it weak for almost 20 hours before they started to get stronger)  Enjoy this time, labor or not!

My mom said that with me, she never could feel contractions.  She said that she had back labor and could only feel pain in her back.  So, I think that it could be labor.  I would at least call your doctor and let him/her know and make that determination.  My labor w/ my son also started in my back.

Oh, and false labor contractions will not be consistent and will stop or relent if you move positions. So if you begin having contractions, get up and move around and see if they continue or stop!

You should time contractions (they may just feel like strong cramps). I had a hard time feeling early contractions. Sit down and place a hand on your belly. Every time it bunches up, that is a contraction. Time how long it lasts and how long between each one. You time them from the beginning of one contraction to the beginning of the next. You don't time them from the end of a contraction to the beginning of the next.

For example:

If your first contraction begins at 12:40 and lasts 60 seconds. You have another contraction at 12:55. The time BETWEEN the contractions is 15 minutes. It is not 14 minutes.

Give your Ob a call if it gets bad just to let him/her know! Good Luck!

Im guess its just your body getting ready. Its funny, you will know when its labor. If you do start to notice it starting up and then going away then start timing them.

Can you time your pain or is it just there?
