Eating

I'm 13w4d and not hungry. I can bring myself to eat a couple times a day usually when I feel like I'm going to pass out, but nothing ever sounds good, and I'm just not hungry. Anyone else have this problem or have any solutions?

Snacks are great! String cheese, dry cereal, dont go over board on fruit juice though... i learned the hard way last month on that one if you know what I mean... I hate those dr office scales lol! But nuts are great and I love english muffins with peanut butter and honey or jelly. Those are good quick things to munch on. Milk is a good one to to have a glass of. I only drink skim so I drink more than I should but I love it!! Its much easier to just get a little snack here and there rather than big meals. It gets harder to eat big meals too because your belly shrinks as baby grows. I didnt have morning sickness either so that was a relief but yes once you hit your second trimester you have to start eating about 300 calories more a day and then once you hit your 3rd trimester at 27 weeks another 450 calories a day. It seems hard but really you can hit your calorie goal pretty quickly. Here is a website you might find some more things to eat that are quick and easy.

Good luck. I know its hard sometimes to eat a lot but remember your baby will start taking what it needs from your body in any way possible to get what it needs to grow. Make sure you are getting enough calcium because baby will take that from your teeth and bones. If your dr office has a lactaction consultant in the office talk to them because they can help with ideas for other things to eat to be sure you are getting the proper nutrients you need for both you and baby.

Now that you're in the second trimester, nutrition for your baby is the most important.  If you're not hungry now, just wait a couple more weeks, and you'll be eating just about everything in front of you!!  If you're past your morning sickness period, you should be eating 5-6 healthy, small meals/snacks regardless if you're hungry or not, and drinking upwards of 80 oz. of fluids (fruit juice, water, etc.) per day regardless if you're thirsty or not.  Eating fruits, yogurt, salads, veggie sticks, etc. are all light enough to not upset your stomach, but providing good vitamins and minerals to your baby.  Remember you have a little one depending on you and only you for the nutrients it needs.
