I just wanted to share that about 3 months after i had my baby i was diagnosed with postpartum thyroiditis which in the begining can be hyperactive the turn hypoactive. It can clear up in a year or so but i accidentally got pregnant again so i have to stay on meds until i deliver. The meds are pretty cheap even without insurance. Read up on postpartum thyroiditis if you can and see if it fits.
hmmm..I am not too sure on all this...I just wanted to chime in and tell you I wish you the best of luck, and I am so sorry that you are going through all this:( Just hang in there chicka, keep your head up...Everything will eventually work out...
If you need to talk, I am here to listen
well the progesterone thing is for me, I have trouble going to th ebathroom also and it has a pattern with my cycles! I have an easier time when I O cause the progesterone is a dieretic and I loose the water wieght. My body absorbs water and does not release it to my colon from the low progesterone. You may not have the low progesterone like me, that is a hormone thing as well but is not related to hypertyriod issues. But if you can get it checked! I also suggest you take mirilax daily which will help. I went to a gastro but he gave me this pill that had just been on the market a week and I got so sick after one pill!!!! I thought I would die and became very dehydrated!
The only way I know to help th eweight gain and stuff is for you to take the standard process whole food suppliments I told you about above.
I have weird reations and syptoms to lots of things! You can't go by symptoms but blood work! Oh and my levels run around .20-.27 usually when not pregnant adn around .32-.38 when pregnant but after pregnancy they run .80-.91 which then I have all the signs of hypothyriodism. My body loves and I love it when my levels are around .20-.27!!! I also know many in my family ahve hypothyriodism and the dr's will try to keep you around a certian number but ALL RE's say to stay 1-1.5 lower then that! I forget the actual number but remember the difference, sorry. And when pregnant your T3 T4 have a great ammount to do with your TSH and you can't go on just your TSH alone.
Best of luck and let me know if you suggest checking your progesterone to yoru dr! You have to do it around CD 20-22 and best to do 2 days after O if you know when.
chantel - yea, the plate is full....im trying to remove one thing at a time but its a bit overwhelming
bhenneker - thank you sharing.....my baby is 3 months old right now, she was born 8 week early because of an infection....she will be 4 months old dec 6....the doc retested my levels so im waiting to see what they are now....they were very low (.006 if i remember correctly) so we'll see what it is now
30something13 - thank you....i was completely confused how my levels could be so low and im actually gaining weight!!! as i said to bhenneker my doc rechecked my levels and im waiting for a phone call today to let me know what they are at now...i will look into the med you said
do you have any ideas how to kick up my metabolism so i stop gaining weight?
how does your progesterone affect that?
sunworshiper_26 ....thank you, i could never be a doctor....to me its too much of a guessing game but these are people's lives
Some people have atypical signs of hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism. My sister is hypothyroid and cannot gain an ounce, my mom was hyperthyroid and couldn't not gain which ois opposite of normal. But every body is different because they don't read medical books ;)
I have a hyperthyriod and I have a hard time loosing wieght! Have them check your progesterone too!
I have always stayed the same ezcept for when nursing but before I got pregnant the last time it went real bad and I almost had to get meds. Now after birth it is in the normal range but slugish from what my body is used to so I ahve all the signs of hypothyriod. It does not just ahve to do with the numbers but how your body is used to runniung on, make since?
eat some natural sea salt on your food to help! ALso I suggest to look up standard process and find a retailer/dr and get some IODOMERE or Prolamine Iodide. It will help faster and better then the meds!
I have hyperthyriodisum (It was discovered after I gave birth to my 18wks gestanal girl) and was the cause of her early birth. By your display picture it looks like you have a little one.. If i am right how old is he? If he is under 4 months good chance your thr=yriod problem is due to labour. There is many moms out there that start a thyriod problem after birth (normally hyper) also the good side to it is that normally it will take care of its self. Meaning you will not need meds. Just make sure your doctor keeps an eye on the levels.with mine pregnancy started it but for some reason mine is looking like its here to stay which I hope is not your problem b/c even treated hyper can cause pregnancy problems so if you ever plan on getting pregnant again it will be a fight in most cases. Good luck
I am sorry you have to go through this! I really hope your thyroid levels stabilize soon for you. Seems like you have a lot on your plate right now. Try to hang in there!! *hugs*
yea...the thyroid issue is new....i truly was suprised because i thought the levels would come back normal and this time they didnt
im sad because i dont have good insurance so im not sure if i can even affrod the meds
plus my marriage is not doing so well...im not sure how happy i am....i thought marriage was more about family than hanging out with friends....
its just a cluster mess right now and here come the holidays
I'm so sorry girl I've been out of town so I'm getting in one-liners (and of course the novel I wrote yesterday LOL) here and there...I'm still out of town until tomorrow evening so I'm hit-or-miss but I wanted to stop by and say that I'm sorry you're going through all this uncertainty...and I think a lot of ppl have been busy so plz don't think it's a lack of compassion or caring for you, because i know you're a much beloved lady here!
*hugs* hang in there I hope they find an answer for you soon hon...is the thyroid issue related to what you were saying on your status about being done with TTC the other day?
Hey girl. I'm sorry I hadn't responded sooner...but super busy, but I wanted to say that I agree that your doc is confusing. My mom had hypOthyroid and gained a bunch of weight. Then after being on meds for it for awhile she couldn't afford them anymore and stopped taking them. After awhile she suddenly just dropped a lot of weight. A few years later she started gaining again, she went back to have her thyroid checked again and they said there was nothing wrong with it. Good luck with the tests monday. I hope they can find the problem and also help with the constipatin issues. I KNOW that has got to be miserable.
im not sure what happned to this forum....there used to be so much more suppport regardless of if the issue was related to preg or not
been here for 3 years and im saddened by the lack of support that is growing on here
well for anybody who is keeping up....doc called yesterday and said my t4 is normal and they were expecting to find my thyroid issues with my t4 results so now i have to go back monday for more bloodwork.....they are going to retest my tsh (thyroid gland) and check my t3 levels
im super confused but the doc said something is causing my tsh levels to be low (hyperthyroidism) and hopefully they will find it in my t3 bloodwork....if not i have to go to a specialist
also, im being referred to a gastroentroligist because of constipation issues lasting over 2 years now and now i get nausous before a bowel movement along with a sharp cramp in my stomach
gosh, i feel like my body is just rejecting me :(
so as for TTC....who knows :/
i should be getting my results that will show the actual levels (T3 and T4)....ill wait to see what they say...i think too little of each is hyper and too many is hypo but i have no clue right now
i dont know what to think because im just as confused
I agree with Angebelle....my mother has hypo-thyroid, and she gained 30 pounds and it's been a couple of years, and she is still struggling to lose weight. I would definitely say your doc is confusing. I've always understood it the way you do. Maybe get a second opinion? It couldn't hurt.
I've understood that hypothyroidism is when there's too little thyroid hormone produced and is associated with weight gain and runs tandem with PCOS many times. Hyperthyroidism, on the other hand, is an overactive thyroid and is associated with constant hunger and weight loss. So, yes, you're doctor's pre-diagnosis is confusing. Good luck.
