Feet swollen

Hello, my feet have been swollen for about a week now and I am not sure if I should be worried.  They are the only part of my body that is swollen.  I have read online to try putting my feet up, and I do at home, but they are still swollen.  Also, exercise.  Well I have done zumba 2 times this week, but the more I do it, the more my feet hurt.  My right one hurts, the left one doesn't. I am not sure what else I can do.  None of my shoes fit me right now, so they all hurt to wear.  Anyone have any suggestions or know if this is a bad sign? Thanks.

Im 37+2 and have had constantly swollen sore feet and ankles for months. I was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia at 27 weeks which is early and put out on bed rest. What I have found that kind of helps is to not only drink plenty of fluids but when you elevate your feet make sure they are above your heart. A lot of people don't raise their feet high enough. Simply up in a reclined or a foot stool is not enough to relieve the pressure. If you are concerned about pre-eclampsia I would recommend taking your blood pressure at a local pharmacy and keep a little journal to give to your doctor so they can get a bigger picture of what happens when you are not in the office. It wouldn't hurt to start cutting out or even back on your salt (sodium) intake. I never add it to food but you would be surprised at how much sodium is in everyday foods. Good luck and wish you a happy healthy pregnancy!

Well and that was why I mentioned if you start having other body parts swell suddenly like your face and neck and puffy eyes and hands then I would call the dr right away. But if its just your feet then that is pretty normal. You can always bring it up at your next appt with your dr but they normally check to make sure your feet arent to swollen each time you go in. At least my dr always looks at mine. But keep them up as much as possible. Also if your blood pressure goes up really fast thats another concern for the per-eclampsia. You can always go to your local drug store cuz they normally have those blood pressure monitors if you are concerned. But some swelling is totally to be expected.

I actually am wearing flip flops already and they are super tight on my.  The sucky thing is I have tiny feet, but they are wide, but I will try the guys flip flops.  My husband has some he doesn't wear.  I will try the cold water thing tonight. Thanks also to you for your advice. I am scared I could have pre-eclamsia, so that is why I am so concerned.

Its very important to keep your feet up as much as possible. Yes the water is important for sure. And like PP said maybe back off on the zumba. My feet are a tad swollen right now and they hurt really bad to walk on or to curl my toes is just super painful. You can also try soaking them in cold cold water helps me also. But bring it up with your dr at your next appt. While swollen feet is very normal and common in pregnancy sometimes it can be something more serious so if anything else starts to suddenly swell like your face or neck or hands call your dr right away to let them know. Not to worry you but just to be safe. I would just stay out of the heat as much as possible though and go buy yourself some flip flops!!! I actually got some guys flip flops this last time and they are so so comfortable. I have larger feet for a girl and they are already a tad wide so guys flip flops work great. And they are easy to slip on and off being 36 weeks pregnant and I cant bend over to put anything else on  :)

Thanks for the info.  I just want to be active, as I am overweight and trying to do as my ob said and not gain a lot and to exercise as much as possible.  Not sure how to do that when I feel like my foot is going to explode ya know :-)

The heat has a lot to do with the swelling. And swelling is a totally normal thing in pregnancy. Just take it easy, drink lots of water and fluids, put your feet up as much as you can, and take it easy on the zumba if it makes your feet hurt.

Also, I forgot to mention, I live in Colorado, and the temperatures have been 100 degrees lately, or close to it.  Not sure if this is one of the reasons.  Also, people say to drink lots of water, but I already drink more than 64 ounces a day
