Fetal development

I always thought the genitals didn't start to develop in utero until week 14? Is that right?

I know there's a machine now that can tell as early as 12 weeks but most doctors will wait until later on in the second trimester to see.

I don't know. I was just wondering cause a friend of mine is 12 weeks and said they told her there were girl parts today at her ultrasound. I think that's way too early to tell so I was just wondering.

They actually start to develop the last few weeks of the first trimester.  I think 14 weeks is the earliest you may be able to see the sex?
