For any ladies that have been diagnosed with GD!

Yesterday I met with a counselor and dietician. They not only explained what happens to you and baby when you have gestational diabetes, but they also taught me about the affects, what could possibly happen and what I need to keep an eye out for, and they also talked to me about diet. I walked away with a ton of information, a two page grocery list, a meal plan, and tons of recipes. If you ladies have any questions I will do my best to get an answer for you. I learned a lot and suggest you talk to your doctor about meeting with a GD nutritionist. You won't regret it. I was so nervous and scared to the point I wouldn't even eat and now I'm confident and know how to take control :) comment or message me if I can help you ladies in any way (:

Also a big plus!! Following this meal plan has helped me with my weight gain and I am always full! I also feel very energized throughout the day so I work out on the treadmill for about 15-30 minutes everyday which also helps a lot with blood sugar! :)

For breakfast I am allowed to have up to 25 grams of carbs.. For breakfast today I had two eggs (0grams), 2 turkey sausage links (2grams), and 2 pieces of whole wheat toast (16grams).. for my snacks I am allowed to have up to 30 grams of carbs.. for a snack today I had one granola bar (12grams) and a Clementine (16grams).. for lunch I am allowed to have up to 45 grams of carbs and for lunch today I had a taco salad with 1/2 cup of taco meat, 1 cup of lettuce, 2 tablespoons of guacamole, 1 tablespoon of salsa, sour cream, and cheese (40 grams).. then I had another snack (1 granola bar).. For dinner its also 45 grams. I wasn't too hungry tonight so I just had a bagel thin with 1 teaspoon of cream cheese (20 grams) and 8 oz of mandarin orange slices (20 grams).. for my bedtime snack (remember all snacks are 30 grams :) ) I had a Greek strawberry yogurt (8grams) with a tablespoon of granola (12grams) Hope this helps!!!

Very good info. What does a sample day look like? For each meal and snack?

Also!!! When looking at a label and paying attention to the total carbohydrates check the serving size as well!! Like for my snack today at work I brought a granola bar and a Clementine. The Clementine has 16 grams of carbohydrates and my granola bar (2 servings) was a total of 29 carbohydrates. Therefore in order to eat both I could only eat one of the granola bars instead of the serving size of two. I hope that made sense lol

I was told to eat six times a day. 3 small meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) and 3 snacks in between (one of those being a bed time snack) I started looking at the sugar content too but the dietician told me what matter is the total carbohydrates!!! For snack time you do not want to exceed over 30 grams of carbohydrates. Stay away from cereal, milk, and fruit in the morning. Eat lots of veggies and proteins. No juice, pop, sugary coffees, etc... the best option is to just drink a lot of water and of course maybe a small glass of milk with one of your evening snack for a good source of calcium. Try to also measure your portion sizes!
