I know there are several of you ladies who have had your fair share of the challenges with GERD in their infant. Help!!  Ellie was born preemie and shows classic signs of GERD. I had her at the dr she is gaining weight we got the spitting up under control by slowing her feedings and sitting her upright for 20min after meals.

She was still pulling her legs up to her chest often and seemed uncomfortable so I talked to the nurse at the ped today and they said it's safe to try infant gas drops. So we have done that and yay it helps. We also have her bassinet propped Approx 30 degree so she isn't flat on her back.

BUT she had another projectile incident this evening. Mid BF session it just came pouring out with no warning. What do I do?!?  It's much more upsetting to me than her an I'm afraid to sleep at night because she still does sometimes spit up. They told me I could try rice cereal mixed with breastmilk but I've heard mixed reviews on this. She also seems to over eat and does better with the bottle bc I can know how much she has gotten and can limit it. But I do love BFing and want to continue.

Any suggestions???  I know the GERD is typical for bc she was born at 35 weeks 1 day gestation but OMG I did not realize how stressful it is :(. And I'm so tired bc I'm afraid to sleep bc I'm afraid she will throw up or spit up while I'm asleep

I mentioned her reflux at every appt (3) and said they were getting worse and told him what she was doing and that keeping her propped up wasn't helping out so much. He told me to keep her on Soy for another week, but friday night she went to the ER for an allergic reaction to it. So...nutramigen it is. With reflux babies you have to play chemist and figure out which amount of rice cereal is what they need to keep the  formula down and you sometimes have to play with the dosage of zantac. They told me to use 1tsp of rice cereal per ounce of milk or formula and when that didn't help they said 1tbsp per 2 ounces. I changed her formula and we don't have to use the cereal at all. She now just has silent reflux.

Nicole thank you SO much!!  I'm hoping that the dr will give in soon and give her Zantac. They said not unless she's not gaining weight but I'm hoping if I annoy the heck out of them before then maybe they will give it to her?  I'm also looking into my diet to see if something is upsetting her. It's really reassuring to hear that you were able to resolve it :). Thank you!

Clysta good idea thank you!!

Hey! My DD has severe GER and a possible cows milk/soy protein allergy. We bottle feed and I'm relactating and giving it to her in a bottle. She's on Zantac and it helps way more than the elevated mattress and rice cereal. DD got to where shhe was projectile vomiting after almost every feeding. She's also on hypoallergenic formula (Nutramigen), and she's like a brand new baby. No more vomit, no more arching her back and drawing her knees up in pain, and she's all smiles! I hope you can get Ellie to feeling better. We did the rice cereal and it worked great, but her main issue I think is the allergy to her formula. Your dd may be sensitive to something in your diet. Best of luck, pm me if you need anything!

I have no real advice or anything, but I really hope Ellie feels better soon. You can also try posting this in the breastfeeding forum. One of the CLs there pumped/breastfed her baby and she had severe acid reflux. She should be able to give really good advice. Good luck K.
