Gallstones during pregnancy

I am 29 weeks pregnant and have multiple gallstones. I have had more than 6 biliary colic attacks and my OB is now recommending that I talk to a surgeon about having gallbladder surgery.  What are the risks of surgery to the baby and myself ???

Gull bladder issues are common in pregancy. I'm sure your OB wouldn't have recommended this if the benefits did not outweigh the risks. Luckily you are far enough along that surgery isn't as risky. When you speak to the surgeon they will go over the risks vs benefits of surgery. If not you need to ask them. Good luck, feel better!

Hi
I have hamy gallbladder removed although not when i was pregant.

Sunwoshier is correct please ask the questions just to make sure the benefit is much larger than the risk.

I had one very large stone rather than small stones so it was stuck rather than moving. I know if you have smaller stones they can cause some different serious problems.

I also understand how much it hurts which i think is worse than contractions in labour!!!

Good luck

I also had my gull bladder removed and OMG the pain from my gull bladder issues prior to surgery made recovering from surgery seem easy as pie

I had in excess of 20 attacks while i was pregnant. I chose not to have the surgery after discussing the risks with the surgeon. There were a few risks to the baby ie premature labor and a few others, where as no risks to the baby for me to continue on and work through the attacks. I chose to continue on and had my gall bladder removed 5 weeks after delivery.

Talk it through with the surgeon completely! Good luck! Stay away from any foods with fat in them, drink lots of apple juice and take it easy. I found hot showers and prescribed pain killers (category A)  helped during the peak of attacks but towards the end of my pregnancy pethidine was the only thing that helped me.
