I'm just curious, but if group b strep isn't sexually transmitted.. How do you get it in the first place? All my doctor told me with my test for it was that if I have it I will have to get two doses of antibiotics via IV while I'm in labor..

Our bodies are loaded with bacteria. Why is there a reason for the majority of them, such as yeast?
Personally i think its ijust because intestines are awesome for bacteria build up because that is where waste travels.
They swab your vag and anus, its all a very fast process :/

They just swab your vagina and butt hole. Doesn't hurt or anything. It lasts like a minute.

So I guess that means everyone gets tested for it then? What do they do to test you for it?

I have no idea. But it doesn't really matter lol. I guess you just get it, like other non harmful bacteria in our bodies.. it comes and goes, thats why they don't test you for it til towards the end of your pregnancy.

I know it can hurt newborns, which is the whole reason for the antibiotics.. And I know it can be in your intestines.. I'm just wondering how you actually get it. Those are really the only things that ever get explained when I've researched it.. Nothing is ever explained about HOW you get it.

Its not an STI at all. Just a bacteria in your body that doesn't hurt you, but can hurt baby passing through your vagina, if you have it.

Adults can have it in there intestines and it not phase them but if a newborn gets it then it can be bad. It's just a certain type of bacteria.
