Gestational sac not matching gestational weeks

I went in for an ultrasound to see if I was having an ectopic pregnancy  (had one before, left tube removed) due to slight cramping on right ride and slight spot. The spotting stopped before I'd even made it to the hospital. Had my blood drawn multiple times only to be told that I was definitely pregnant. OhhKaaay. Had a vaginal ultrasound done, and was told that the HCG in my blood only matched 4 weeks, as did the sac in my uterus. (Not ectopic, thank GOD!) They asked me was I positive about my last menstrual cycle, yes. I keep track of them on my calender. Last menstrual cycle was 7 June, and The date of the appointment was 26 July. They had me at 7 weeks exactly. So they have me coming back tomorrow for more blood tests. They've mentioned Possible signs of an abnormal pregnancy with possible early miscarriage, yet said she'll keep her fingers crossed for me and to continue taking prenatal pills and eating right. If it's off 3 weeks, doesn't that pretty much guarantee miscarriage? I've had a little discharge with a slight pinkish color today and I'm just trying to prepare myself for the worst.

Hi, I really don't want to bring you down or anything like that, but I've just gone through the same thing. I went for my first u/s on 7/21. I would've been 10w 1d. The sac only measured 6w 3d. They told me the same thing...that maybe my dates were just off, but I was 150% sure on my last menstrual cycle. There was no fetal pole or heart beat, but there was a yolk sac. The nurse scheduled me for another u/s on Aug 3. She advised me of signs of miscarriage just in case. She also sent me to the lab imediately to have my blood drawn to measure my hcg levels. The next day I had minimal spotting. Then it went away. Well this past friday I started bleeding and haven't stopped. I have some pretty bad cramps. I ended up in the ER on Sunday. They did a transvaginal u/s and the doctor still saw a gestational sac with a yolk sac. They took my blood again and my hcg levels had gone from 32000 to 18000 in a week. Which wasn't a good thing. I've come to the conclusion that I am miscarrying, but am still going for my last u/s on Aug 3. Hopefully by then, everything will be out my system, HOPEFULLY!!  I just want you to be aware of both sides that can happen. Maybe this can help you, or let you know what to look for. I hope the very best for you. Just remember, HOPE FOR THE BEST, PREPARE FOR THE WORST. Everything happens for a reason, and there are a lot of people you can go to for support. You're in my prayers!

I also had spotting that I went to the ER for (when I was about 6 weeks). They also did a blood test and u/s. I don't really know about the HCG 's... I had had mine drawn before so we just knew that they had gone up... but they also told me that they could only see a gest sac that was very small. They did not see a yolk sac or a fetal pole. I went to my Dr. 3 days later, she did another u/s and still only a small sac... she advised me that a small empty sac was better than a large empty sac, but she would have expected to see a h/b by then and was going to send me for a higher resolution u/s and if nothing was there she would check my blood again and if it was not doubling she would sched a D&C... Low and behold when we went (same day) for the high resolution u/s we saw EVERYTHING... gest sac, yolk sac, fetal pole and heart beat!!!
Anyway, I guess what I am trying to say is... sometimes the machines they use in Dr. offices and ER's are not the best... they can miss things... Its very possible that your little one is there and growing just fine and they just can't see him/her with the equiptment that they are using.
Are they drawing your blood again? Scheduling another u/s??
I don't think that you are doomed to m/c just yet... hang in there... I know its hard, but try not to stress and stay positive and keep us update!! (((HUGS)))

I don't know if it always mean a miscarriage.  If I were you I would relax the next few days and like the nurse said keep taking your vitamins.  This also happened to me at 10 weeks and I did lose the baby but again I don't think it always means that.  Keep in contact with the sc and let them know of any changes.
