Thank you so much! Was worried and wasn't sure if I should stress about it
There is a chance if you don't get antibiotics that it can be passed to the baby, and if it is passed to the baby it can be really damaging to their immune systems and possibly even fatal. They give you IV antibiotics during your labor and pay closer attention to the baby when s/he is born. I had it with my first born, and had the antibiotics and he was fine they didn't have to give him anything other than the usual eye drops and tests.
@jasmine2366 group b strep is a bacteria found in the vaginal and rectal areas of women. It does not affect us but can be passed to baby which is dangerous. It comes and goes on its own accord. They test for it around 36 weeks by doing a vaginal swab. Sometimes they test earlier, but not usually because it can come and go so they try and test as close as they can to your due date so they have the most accurate results for when you are in labor.
They give you and the baby antibiotics after you deliver. Won't affect the baby at all since they know weather or not you have it they treat the baby immediately.
