Help. Gestational diabetes

So I found out today that I indeed have this. Really bummed out. But I wanted to know if there are any tips on what to eat or do to help lower this. Does it go away with proper diet? Is my baby going to have complications when born? This is my first pregnancy n I have no idea how this happened if I've been having mostly fresh fruit n chilli. Any ideas would be great. Thank you.

I had it with my 3rd son and I do not have it this pregnancy;-) I agree with a more portion controlled diet and only eating a certain amt of carbs for meals and snacks. Like others pointed out, your nutritionist will help you tremendously with the dos and donts. My son was 7lbs 14oz, normal for me. You should be just fine;-)

Not in all cases will you have a larger baby...I had it with my son and he was born at 6lbs 15oz...and I just had an u/s of my daughter and she is only weighing 7lbs 5oz...so normal size little ones...if you are able to keep your sugars under control you will have a normal size little one...i have had it both my pregnancies...when you go to the dietician they will explain everything on the dos and donts of what to eat...but everything is mainly done in portions...and with each carb you need to eat a protein...you will do just fine love

Thank you! The checking of the carbs n food intake may be tedious but I'm willing to do it n that's what matters. I'm 30 weeks n my doctor told me last that my measurements are ideal for my height n weight n that he sounds great in the monitor. I've never had anything my whole life ( high bp

I have it. I did not have it with my first son it should go away after the baby is born but from what I was told you are more likely to develop type 2 diabetes later so far I have been able to control mine with diet your doctor should set you up with a nutritionist who will show you how to check your blood sugar and help explain what you can eat. They limit the amount of carbs that you can eat which is what turns into sugar that your body can't process it's a lot of work checking everything that you eat but will be worth it if you can control it thru diet. You are more likely to have a larger baby tho at my 36 week u/s bubs was measuring 7lbs 3oz. I am not sure of other complications as I've been able to control my sugars other than having a larger baby hope this helps :-)

You should ask to be referred to a dietician. They help a lot! I have to do a 2nd 3 hour glucose test next week because I was borderline on my results. And you did NOTHING to cause it! It has to do with hormonal reaction between your placenta and insulin resistance. Also you can be genetically predisposed to getting it.

Yes. I made my appointment with my dr and dietician already. I will ask lots of questions so I can minimize any major effects of this. Thank you for the suggestions and I will go buy me some carrots tomorrow instead of my nectarines.

Fruit has a lot of sugar so I would switch to veggies. Other than that, ur Dr should be able to answer ur questions.

It can be controlled with the proper diet, but it won't go away. Depends on how bad it is, you may need medication to control it. Has your doctor made an appt. to discuss with you? Usually they'll set you up with a nutritionist to discuss ways to control it with diet. I didn't have it with my first, but I go next week for my test, pretty nervous! Babies tend to be bigger with gestational diabetes, I would make sure you ask your doctor all the questions you have about it.
