What happens during a M/C? help??

My friend told me she went to a doctor cause she had a spot of blood when she wiped (not her normal doctor) She said it wasn't a lot, but it kind of made her worry so I told her to go to the hospital. She told me, the woman who looked at her said she's having a miscarriage. She's 8 weeks and a few days. They saw and heard a heartbeat at 6 weeks.. it was a little faint but it was there. She couldn't hear the heartbeat on 7/29.. What happens during a miscarriage. I was told the baby has 2 weeks to be out or they have to do it themselves? She told me she's cramping a little, and has a little spotting of brown every now and then when she goes to the bathroom.. But nothing weird to her. Can someone please help me figure this out? I feel so bad for her because it was her first pregnancy, and wanted this baby so much.

There are many reasons a woman bleeds in pregnancy. It could be a tear, a cervical problem, or a placental problem. When we see blood we immediately think miscarriage but that's definitely not always the case and I hope it's not for your sister!

Depending on how high her hormones would be the main factor in determining how quickly or slowly symptoms would fade in a miscarriage.

When I miscarried I did not have a single pregnancy symptom. I didn't feel sick once, nor did I have sore breasts, etc. Then again, women without symptoms go on to have healthy babies... so you see everyone is just different!

Okayyy ya'll. I just got an update from her and she said the spotting has stopped. She said at first it was like she started her AF. Not heavy, just the begining of one. Then it went to spotting and now it's gone. So I'm hoping it's just a growing baby and nothing else! which I won't know anything until tomorrow...

She's still been feeling sick(feels like or did throw up), headaches, backpain but not bad, basically she's still feeling pregnant.
I thought that the symptoms would kinda drift off during a m/c?

Here's what happened to me, not knowing I was pregnant at first.  I started spotting brown (only needed a panty liner) on December 20, moderate cramping but I had been experiencing that for the past 3 weeks.  Then on December 24 stopped spotting.  Then December 25, heavy cramping (at first thought it was something I ate) in the afternoon and by 6pm-10pm I had bled through 4 super tampons and had sever cramping.  I slept thorugh the night fine after soaking in a hot tub, but woke up with blood everywhere.  Went to the ER and turns out I was pregnant and most likely m/c.  They couldn't see anything on the u/s so they didn't know if it was the end or beginning.  I guess my point is, the spotting could stop but it may start again and be worse.  She should get a second u/s to confirm everything before making any decisions.  Also, I had a pelvic exam at my first appt. when I was 8w3d - it's standard.

A pelvic exam does not raise the chances of miscarriage. In fact, at your first OB appointment they do a pap smear (aka pelvic exam) and you're anywhere from 4-12 weeks at the first appointment.

I hope that the bleeding stops for her! She should not get a D&C or take any pills to induce miscarriage. She just needs to wait and get an ultrasound.

As far as I know the bleedings stopped for her. but it wasn't a flow. it was spotting and she said b4 bed it was there but very light pink and you would actually have to look GOOD inorder to see it.

So I'm hoping the baby is actually okay. And, she's going to her doctor friday.

if she is bleeding like a flow bleeding then that sounds concerning she should get an emergency doctors appointment. i wish her all the best.

Threatened Miscarriage Symptoms
A heavy feeling in the pelvis or stomach during the first three months of pregnancy.
Period-like cramps or tingling twitches.
Bleeding that occurs either when the normal menstrual cycle usually happens or at other times. Sometimes this is simply implantation bleeding, but sometimes not.
Bleeding that not only continues but increases in amount and frequency. If you bleed through more than one menstrual pad an hour, it means your chances of miscarriage are increased and it’s usually recommended that you call your care provider or simply head to the hospital.
Experiencing bleeding and period-like cramping that continues to worsen.
Early bleeding and an early ultrasound where no baby heartbeat can be detected.
Bleeding that consists of clots, either small or large.
A general overall feeling that something is not quite right with a pregnancy. Pregnant women can be very intuitive and these sort of feelings should absolutely be discussed with a care provider.
Sometimes bleeding during early pregnancy is technically a real period. This happens because the body doesn’t have sufficient quantities of pregnancy hormones. This may result in early miscarriage symptoms and miscarriage or the pregnancy hormones can increase and the pregnancy may develop normally. If it’s found that a baby has died in the womb, say by means of ultrasound, than a miscarriage is inevitable. This kind of miscarriage is also known as a spontaneous abortion.

She told me just a few minutes ago ( and I can't believe i'm still awake at 5:35am talking) that her bleeding seems to have stopped some? Is that a good thing even if the doctor say it's a MC?

Hmm... its possible that they missed the heartbeat (heard of it happening before) or that they baby stopped developing. I got a ultrasound at 6w2d due to bleeding and then everything was fine heartbeat and all and then at 9 weeks it said I was only 6w4d and no heartbeat. If it was a routine ultrasound it is completely possible that the baby had just terminated. :( I hope that is not the case though and that everything is fine. I'll keep your friend in my prayers.

well she would be 8 weeks and 3 days I believe (if not for the miscarriage but the doctor said she looked about 8 weeks and 4 days).. so I don't know what to think. Other people I've read there baby was looking a few week(s) younger. Say if they were 10 weeks, the baby would stop at 7-8 weeks. It would almost seem the baby died yesterday.....
I'm just baffled. She's right where she needs to be with her pregnancy but it's a miscarriage? She just told me on my space IM that she's cramping but it's not severe. Just the normal cramps she's been feeling since she got pregnant.

omg i hope they didnt do a pelvic.....i keep hearing if a pelvic is done with a suspected m/c, it actually raises the chance, esp if the poss of the bleeding were to stop on its own.....

if it's just spotting here and there, not bleeding or cramping, then she needs to see her normal dr.....i don't mean to be rude to any hospital worker, but i've gone in from a car accident, and 5 hrs afterwards i went to the hosp cos i was cramping some, and i had a few spots....they gave me the 2 dose pill, an iv drip for dehydration, and sent me home w/o even confirming the pregnancy they did NOTHING except check my vitals, ears nose and eyes!!!!!!!!!!!!      ****In the Navvvvvyyyyyyy****  (inside joke)
