Yeah i'm trying, there isn't a lot I can do and it *****. Cause when he really understand all about Halloween i'm going to have to tell him if he goes, he can't eat any of it...And that'll break his heart :( Poor thing.
Maybe every year i'll just throw parties, and do apple bobs, and you know really play up cheesy snacks, and stuff!
That's too bad about the peanut allergy! At least you are still dressing them up and making it fun for them!
So, I'm not taking my kids trick or treating because my son wouldn't beable to have anything he got! which I think is unfair! He has a peanut allergy, and all candy in the factory's is processed on machines that process peanuts!
So they're in their costumes now, and My son the pirate and my daught the princess/govenors daughter lol are going to get to have a party with great grandparents, with cupcakes, and gold fishies and crackers and all that stuff. They will also hand out the candy to people, we've been practicing lol my daughter LOVES it! AHAHA and she says...."Thank you for coming!" lol
Did you see the Planet Earth episode where the Great White jumped out of the water and ate a seal? It took 1/2 a second for the whole thing to be over with but they caught it on the high speed camera! HOLY COW! In 1/2 a second the shark completly cleared the water going verticle! I couldn't believe it!! It was amazing! My husband loves those shows more than I do, so I am going to get him the Blue Ray Plant Earth series they have at Costco for $89 for Christmas.
The cave on was so gross- There was this mountain of guana that they climbed up to get this one shot- No way would you catch me hiking a mountain of poo!
Anita your original comment was very narrow minded even if you want to try fix it now.
Whatever.
Griggsy, I love planet earth and Discovery channel they do have really interesting shows. Early Aztects and Mayans did have some interesting rituals!
On a different note Dancing With the Dead is the fourth album released by a Swedish band named Pain, which was release by Stockholm Records in 2005.
No, I've heard of them either.
I would love to watch the show you watched about it. I'm guessing it was about the early Aztects, or Mayans. They seem to do a lot of shows about those two civilizations. My history regarding them isn't all that vast, but they were certainly interesting.
The best show out there is Planet Earth. They did an entire episode about caves and they showed this cave that was in Mexico- WAY COOL. Anyways thought of it because it was located right smack dab near the center of the Aztec civilization!
OMG PEOPLE! I watched it on discovery channel a few years ago. My husband saw it too! We are not talking about the same thing! I thought I made that clear! They said on the show that its such a uncommon thing now that they are shunned by others. I'm done with this conversation. You are not understanding what I'm talking about. THIS IS STUPID! Good bye people.... after today I'm done with this STUPID website! I don't need to defend myself on this. Theres a GROUP in mexico that dose this. This is such a waist of my time. What ever... BYE
Well First of all ANITA, I'm offended that you would genrealize something as "Spanish" not even knowing the facts about Halloween and Dia de los Muertos. I am latina and NOT all Larino/hispanic people share the same traditions and in fact Dia de los muertos or All Saints day or Day of the Dead was a CATHOLIC tradition NOT Spanish eventhough most people in Latin America who ARE CATHOLIC Celebrate All Saints day or Day of the Dead to remember their ancestors, in some countries like Mexico they do parades where they dress up. Griggsy is right, Halloween was also celebrated as the great harvest day and it is also an ANCIENT PAGAN tradition that came waaaay before Catholics also. So it is a mix of different traditions on one day. Thanks to Globalization we have marketed Halloween as a kids festivity where people give out candy if they dress up and people all over the world celebrate it in some form or another.
As far as I know, none of my Spanish family members dig up any bodies, that may have been an ancient tradition in some culture centuries ago. You probably saw on your show a re-enactment and thought its still being done. GET THE FRIKIN FACTS before you decide to generalize and repeat such nonsense like that.

" I'm pentecolstal so its not a holiday we take part in. Did you know where the idea for Halloween came from? It came from a spanish tradition called Hallows Eve. They save all their money all year long for this one night. The have a feast an costumes. Then they dig up the dead an dance with them. They believe that it keeps the spirit of the dead alive. Crazy huh? Its just not some thing I want any part of. Anita "
This is what I was referring to.. I didnt want it to turn religious, as this post made me think it may, so I simply said "who cares..."
GEEZ! Next time, I guess I won't voice my opinion and try and keep things light!! =)
There was no debate regarding the orgins of Halloween. We were simply talking about the celebration of Día de los Muertos. They also celbrate something of the sorts in Spain during June called Corpus Cristi. While in Spain I left right before the actual event, but every city from Burgos, to Sevilla was getting ready, and it was amazing! Everything was all decked out.
The actual orgin of Halloween started in Ireland/Sweden area. They would get togther after the Harvest and it was time for the winters livestock to be slaughtered and saved for the winter.
After they immigrated here they continued the tradition here. Pretty soon it evolved and is now the Halloween holiday we know. It's always neat to see how things have come to pass, regarless if you participate in them or not.
Linzola, ha ha!!! For the past two years almost all of the candy my baby got was for Mommy and Daddy. But not this year! She's 3 1/2 and knows better!!!
I just said that I don't do halloween due to my faith. I just thought the origin was very interesting. Thats just me! I saw it on discovery channel a few years ago. So we were not having a " RELIGIOUS" debate. Just a educated conversation. The question asked when we will be doing on this day. I just said why I'm not taking part in it. I never said anything bad about any one that takes part in it. Some of us just like knowing how things started. So don't act as if I said something to " offend" you. Because I didn't. Good grief people. Anita
I have to work so i guess i will miss all the fun out there..
OMG..
No offense anyone... I promise....
BUT who cares about origin of Halloween?? It's about having a GOOD time!!!
It's not even a 'religious' holiday so let's skip the debate and focus on candy??!! =P
YUMMY CANDY and ADORABLE little costumes!!!
It's a 'make believe-dress up' holiday and it's fun!!
I watched it on discovery channel. They showed people digging up the dead. It considered old fashion an theres not that many that still do it. I have heard the spanish name I could not remember want it was. They said on discovery channel that the more modern form of this holiday is kinda like Marti Gras. Its kinda like a parade. But there are still people that dig up the dead. They carry the bodies above their heads. ( It takes a few people hold each body.) They said some people save for years so they can take part in this. I'm going to see if i can find it online. If I do i'll post the link.
My BDay is Saturday. Saturday morning I am going to a Christmas Bizzare (crafts), then an auction (Vera Bradley). So, DH & I are celebrating my BDay tmw night with dinner!
I usually LOVE to get all decked out, but this year I am not feeling so hot, so I am going to work, Dr. appt @ 3, then maybe to see Saw 5 if it's showing here and K feels like it..
Last yaer I got all decked out and K stayed home.. He's so lame..
You partly right in the orgins of Halloween, but it is actually a Spanish celibration called Día de los Muertos or The Day of the Dead. They don't actually dig up the dead and dance with them. It started as a day of rememberance for their ancestors that had past on. As far as how it turned into a complete scare feast I have no idea. I enjoy this holiday. The colors are awesome, the weather is perfect, and the shift in food goes from summer to winter. I love it! You can't lose when you are spending time with your family, enjoying good food, and time together!
Well, usually my Grandmother visits from VT and does xmas shopping with us the day after thanksgiving but this year she is doing thanksgiving in CO with my cousin's family sooo we get her this weekend...she'll be coming tomorrow afternoon...we are going out to dinner. I wish we got trick or treaters but we live too far into the woods lol
well tonight is our towns trick or treating so the hubby and i are carving our pumpkins in a lil bit to put outside and we're passing out candy to all the kiddies in the neighborhood. (we just moved into our townhouse, which is our first home together) and watching scary movies all night. and tomorrow my moms town is having a parade which we're walking our twins in with my nephew and sister in law then going out walking around for trick or treat for a bit with my sister in law and nephew then helping my mom pass out candy. and of course later that night my mother is watching the twins for us while we go out for a mommy and daddy night to a costume party. this year i'm a bounty hunter (yup black leather pants, black leather vest, black boots, black cowboy hat and a gun holster with a fake gun) and he's going as the bad guy. lol. the boys are going as a cowboy and indian and my moms dogs are dressed up as horses pulling a wagon for the twins and my nephew (who is also dressed up as a cowboy)
Going to a party. I am going as Juno, anyone else putting on a costume?
We don't do anything for Halloween. I'm pentecolstal so its not a holiday we take part in. Anita
Come Monday we will have a 15 degree over night, and it won't warm up again until Spring. I guess being a native I think our 40 degree highs during the winter is cold, but for others it's shorts and tee shirt weather (my Utah in laws).
DH and I are going to go to dinner and a movie. We would stay home and hand out candy, but we have a dog that barks his head off and will attack anyone knew at the door. We have to hold him back everytime we order pizza, so dealing wiht a ton of trick or treaters doesnt sound too fun to me with dealing with the dog!
