Been taking Zofran (Worried).

hey guys, I was prescribed with Hypermesis a few weeks back.. I've been in and out of the hospital. Lost 15 pounds. Was throwing up about 10 times a day. Went to the hospital and they put Zofran in my IV, and they also prescribed it for me to take when I got home. I've been taking it for the past week.

When I questioned my doctor about it, he said he knew about the risks/rumors but I should be fine, and he insisted. He said that I couldn't continue on this pregnancy without meds because it wasn't healthy for me or the baby.

Now I'm just worried because I heard about the side effects of taking this medicine but I also know that there is NO WAY I can continue this pregnancy without medication. What should I do?

I took it my whole pregnancy and my daughter is perfect lol it should be fine and it really helped. My step dad has cancer and also takes it when he feels sick because of his other meds and loves it too

Hey all what I understood is every drug has side effects irrespective what good they do to you. By weighing the risk benefit you must consume it. I took ondansetron in the name pharmaceutical name of Vomikind. I didn't know that it  had another name Zofran.  Later I checked about this with four different OBs/gyn and they said not to worry as Birth defects aren't not known exactly why they happen so to avoid having a reson they ask us not to intake many drugs as drugs too might be one reason. But if u have HG you need to tame it asap.  Suffering with dehydration and lack of neutrians are bad. Possible risk of not having enough neutrians are predictable and it's harmful for your baby's development. So don't worry if u had taken it. Just think everything's gonna be alright.

Actually the FDA just did a updated warning against it and remember that was over 10 years ago. So no one is giving out false information. All I'm saying is simply do research on it. That's all.

Zofran was approved for use by the US FDA in 1991. Please don't spread false information, PP.
Also, "there's an active lawsuit" doesn't mean that there is any evidence whatsoever that the drug causes harm. It means there are money-hungry lawyers trying to make a profit off of fearmongering.
HG is serious and incredibly nasty, and Zofran can help a lot to make it so you're able to keep food and fluids down to nourish yourself as well as your growing baby. You don't want to end up malnourished... and as you said, OP, nothing else has been working for you. The slight possibility of side effects does exist. But you have to do what you have to do to make it through. Try not to worry. You're doing the best you can and your doctor is on your side.

Everyone's opinion is different but Zofran does have a lawsuit against them and believe it or not there are facts to prove it was never FDA approved. Not every doctor has your best interest in mind believe it or not, of course some women will agree to disagree but your doctor does get a profit off of prescribing you medicine.

I was sick up to my 19th or 20th week yeah it was completely dreadful. I woke up in the morning and threw up, after every meal, before bed, in the middle of the night, couldn't eat till 4 or 5 pm and that's after shoving food down my throat and hoping I would not throw up. But I never once turned to meds I had three different doctors prescribe me Zofran and I refused.
If women in other countries and other centuries can go through pregnancy, labor, and delivery with no doctors, medicine, or proper health care then who said I couldn't?

Pregg ie pops and sea bands helped a lot! Very small meals, toast and peanut butter so you still receive your protein, orange juice for vitamin c, plain sandwiches just meat and cheese, ginger tea.

Like I said everyone is different and every opinion is different! But attempt to do all your research on drugs before taking them whether your doctor says its "safe" or not! Just because one mother reacted fine doesn't mean your body will too! Best of luck to you! And congrats on the baby :)

My daughter came out perfect and I took zofran and then some other nausea medication with a higher dose when zofran stopped working for me. Don't stress, youre doctor wouldn't give you unnessasary medication if he didn't think it was worth the risk. Being that sick *****, and its miserable, but it'll end eventually and in the meantime taking this medication will keep you and your baby safe

I went through the same thing. In my 20 week ultrasound I thought it looked like my little girl had a cleft pallet and I was really worried, but my can on May 19 proved that she is completely healthy in every way. I went through the same thing and it *****, so I know completely what you went through. Your little one I believe is probably just perfect. Don't worry!

I know someone who was diagnosed with HG when she was pregnant, she took Zofran and her baby came out perfectly fine and healthy. Don't listen to rumours, they are just lies spread by know-it-all morons. And not everything everyone says is true, they just say things to scare people or to make them feel guilty. If your doctor prescribed them, then take them because doctors don't prescribe something that'll harm you or the baby. If it helps you to keep food and drinks down, it'll obviously be good for the baby because he/she needs the nutrients from you. Don't get all worked up about rumours, you need to do what's best for your baby :)
