How likely is it that I'm pregnant/should I take a test?

I've been on birth control (Yaz) since late September, so my period follows a strict schedule, showing up every fourth Monday. Often times I've missed pills, but it's never resulted in an early or late period; it dutifully shows up on the day it's supposed to. Except for my last period.

My period was due July 26th. I missed pills on the 17th and 18th, the same days I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend. These days are presumably after I already ovulated, so I tried not to worry myself over it, and I took two pills on the 19th and two on the 20th. On the 21st, I started bleeding. I bled all the way up until the 28th. It was very light at first (I'd only see it when I wiped), then got a bit heavier, but was relatively light the whole way through. Because I'm also worried that I have some sort of bacterial infection, I thought that it may have been a symptom of that. When I went to the clinic, the gynecologist told me that the bleeding was likely because I'd missed the two pills in a row (although that's never happened before, and there have been instances when I've missed two in a row).

I'm wondering what this bleeding was. Was it bleeding from an infection? Was it spotting from missed pills? Or was it my period? A combination of two of them, or all three perhaps? Should I be tested for pregnancy? (I haven't been experiencing any giveaway symptoms...I've just been getting tired more easily as of late, and I have a slightly larger appetite, both of which kind of worry me.)

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Yaz is a combination birth control pill, so if taken as prescribed it will prevent ovulation from happening in the first place. I think that you missed the two pills close enough to your period start date, that you probably aren't pregnant, and the bleeding you experienced was likely your period. However, since you had unprotected sex and did miss two pills, there is still the possibility that you could be pregnant. You could take a home pregnancy test to make sure, especially because Yaz can cause birth defects in the fetus.

Well anytime you do not take a birth control at the same time every day or miss a day you are supposed to use another form of contraception for at least seven days afterwards. Even with taking birth control pills correctly same time every day there still is a chance of pregnancy. I would suggest taking a pregnancy test to make sure and ease your mind. I would also suggest setting an alarm to take your pill at the same time every day so it will be more effective or speak with your dr about an IUD or patch form of birth control or even the depo shot. I wish you the best.
