I NEED A BEER! What's going on?!

For the past 3 weeks I have been craving beer. I've had cravings all through this pregnancy but never this strong and definitely not this long! I didn't really even drink beer much before I got pregnant, so I don't understand what the heck is going on! Its like I can't even stop thinking about it and I have to hurry and take my medicine (prenatal vitamins and iron pills) because I know I can't drink while taking medication! I thought about getting some non alcoholic beer but I heard it doesn't taste the same. Is anyone else going through or have been through this?

I had a friend that craved beer during her pregnancy w/ her twins - and she pretty much only drinks red wine normally.  She drank O'doul's a lot, I think, and the twins turned out fine. :-)  In even the non alcoholic beers, there's like 0.5% alcohol or something.

In my opinion the Coors non-alcoholic and the Paulaner non-alcoholic are better tasting, but I haven't had any since getting pregnant - I haven't had the cravings for alcohol at all - which is weird, b/c I used to drink wine and beer a lot - not like every day but once every one or two weeks.

Hi!

That is so weird. When I was pregnant with my son the same thing happen to me I was craving beer. That was very strange to me because I usually don't drink at all. :)

I totally craved beer with my last pregnancy, right around 34-36 weeks. I would just take a sip of DH's every now and then... My Dr. always told me that a glass of wine or a beer is ok in moderation. I never tried the non-alchoholic though.

LOL I love this post. I craved it so bad it wasn't funny and I hate beer. My ob told me two ounces of german beer in the evening would be okay. I only did that twice and only in the third trimester.

I've known women who drank odouls before I don't think that can hurt you at all.

Good luck.

Personally, I don't have a problem with beer during pregnancy. Like everyone said, once in a while is okay. My midwife knows I have an occasional drink and has no problem with it. She actually recommends I drink some wine when I am contracting too much to help relax things. I just can't stomach it this time around. It's so weird! The smell completely turns me off, especially beer.

I totally agree chantal21! I make the hubby drinks all the time and I always gag. The smell of alcohol makes me sick to my stomach, but its something about beer that has me wanting it so bad I'm ready to lick the bottle. LOL! I asked the nurse today about it and she said she went through the same thing when she was 9 months. At my old job they made us take a 4hr. alcohol class and a glass of wine, a beer, and a shot all have the same amount of alcohol in it. I'm just worried because I've been hearing its OK to drink a glass of wine every once in a while but no one says anything about beer!

With my son, I always craved beer! I did try non-alcholic and it satisfied me. I also drank wine with him as well. Just once in awhile. I know not everyone agrees with it, but in moderation it's ok. Always run it by your doc though. This pregnancy, I can't even think about wine...it sounds so gross to me.

I am in the same boat.  I'm even having dreams almost every night about beer.  It's getting ridiculous already.  It was terrible the other day, I went to a big outdoor weekend concert and everyone was walking around with their gigantic beer mugs and the smell was making me almost drool.  DH told me maybe it's the hops I'm craving more than the beer so I did try a non-alcoholic.  It wasn't so great, and I only drank about half, but it helped quench the craving somewhat.  It does smell and taste similar to regular beer, just not as good.
