Baby Dropping?

I know every pregnancy is different but when during a first pregnancy do babies typically drop? I am 38 weeks and 4 days I went to my appointment yesterday and was checked I am dilated to almost a 3 but the doctor said that the baby is still way up in my pelvis. And that depending on the babies size I will have to have a csection. So I am going back today to have an ultrasound to see how big he is. I am just curious if I should hold off on having a csection and wait and see if he will drop on his own?

Ultrasounds can be off on measurements this late in pregnancy. My ultrasound said my daughter was measuring 3 weeks small and she was almost 7 lbs at birth. Other lady's have been told they are having 10 lb baby's only to give birth to a 6-7 lb baby. Also baby's drop whenever they want which may not be even until you are in labor. Being 3 cm and baby still being high means nothing. I was dilated to 3 cm and baby was almost completely engaged for weeks before I delivered.

Babies just drop when they feel like it... But on the other side if your baby is huge for instance having a natural birth would indeed suck if your child was 10lbs+

But then again due dates can be off a bit. So unless you live way far away from where you are birthing or the baby is huge give it another week.

I would definitely wait for a c-section. A seemingly large baby is no reason to have one. I don't think I ever noticed my baby dropping. I know she engaged the day I was in labour....I had been checked earlier that day and she was up high, and then later that night when I went back she was lower.

Thank you for your response. That gives me hope and I will talk to the Doctor today and tell her that I want to see if he will drop on his own.

Some babies don't engage till the acctual delivary so I'd wait till your in labour and see what happens from there rather then having a c-section, my friend got induced and her baby didnt engage till a good 22 hours after .. Soo I'd wait
