Aww I see, that maybe makes more sense then if you might have a long labour. I've never eaten or drunk anything, but then my labours have been so quick I couldnt have even if I wanted to lol :)
They won't let u eat or drink while in labor at the hospital I have to use...not even ice.
Why on earth would labouring ladies need a saline drip? I've never heard of that. I've had 3 children and never had an IV. It never fails to surprise me how differently childbirth is done around the world! (thats not a criticism btw, just an observation!)
As for the question, I dont think there's much they can do for you, as stated already, a cold is a virus which antibiotics wont help with and you wont pass it on to baby so I doubt they would do anything. Hope you feel better before delivery hun, get lots of rest to help your body fight it. Good luck when the time comes :)
Well I went out and got some cold meds today that my doctor had said were okay to take so I am hoping this darn cold goes away soon.... so far my doctor has agreed not hook up an iv unless its absolutely necessary I just didn't know if a cold counted where they would want to do an iv. Thankfully my test for strep B came back negative last week.
crstl11, I hope you feel better too this being sick while preggo is the worst
A cold is a viral infection and can not be treated by meds. It has to wear off on its on and the body has to fight it all u can do is treat symptoms. Hope u feel better I am 16 weeks and have a runny nose and stopped up all at once and sore throat the doc thank heavens gave me a list of meds I could take and a script today hopefully it will be over soon.
I've never heard of this. I'm almost 38 weeks and been to the hospital 3 times this months and go to the doctors twice a week bc of my bp and have had a cold for a week and a half. I asked my doctor if he could give me something to help but he said there's nothing he can give me bc is not an infection and antibiotics won't help.
If you have a cold no. A cold is a viral infection and cannot be treated with antibiotics. It won't do anything. Usually they will just monitor you and make sure your fever is kept at bay.
You're going to get an iv regardless for saline. It depends on what kind of cold and if your dr feels it can be spread to your baby. Only time i've heard of women getting antibiotics during labor is because of group b strep.
