Its not exactly and inducing drug. Its a drug that softens your cervix to prepare it for induction. In a small percentage of woman it can start labor on its own (like with the previous poster) I had it with two of my three inductions. It didn't cause contractions or anything the first time I had it but the second time I was already lightly contracting when i went in so it made them stronger and I wasn't able to sleep all night bc of it. I didn't like it but it's dangerous to be induced if your cervix isn't softened so if they say you need then definitely do it.

I was induced with cervadil went in on a Sunday night they put it in me at 9 pm and took it out the next morning at 9 am. I was having light contractions with no dilation before it was put in. I had been dilated to a 2 for weeks and having regular contractions with no progress. When they took it out I had dilated to a 4 and almost 100% effaced. It caused me to have contractions 2 minutes apart so I didn't have to get pitocin labored on my own for the rest of the day and my water broke on its own. I had a good experience with it would definitely choose to be induced with it again if I had to. Good luck
