Infant sleep

Usually Kaelynn will sleep 4 hours then wake to eat and go back to sleep for another 4 hours.

The last three nights she has been sleeping 7-8 hours without waking up to eat.

I'm afraid my milk supply is diminishing. I usually would pump when she woke me up to eat. I've finally got her to start nursing which is great but I'm still pumping because I'm engorged alot now. I didn't suffer from engorgment when she was first born but am now that she's almost 6 weeks old.

Is it ok for her to go 7-8 hours without eating at 6 weeks old? I guess I should set an alarm to pump at 4 hours then? I just pumped at 7 hours and got 10 oz. No wonder I was engorged.

She's been sleeping 12 hours now and I've tried to nurse her at 8 hrs and again just a few minutes ago. She wouldn't eat much and her poor belly is grumbling.

I agree with losingmymindinGA...All 4 of my babies sleep 7-8hrs a night from day 1 or 2. As long as they are gaining weight they are fine believe. Dont let anyone tell you you have to wake them up at night to eat!! And as far as pumping if your already hurting from being engorged you really dont want to pump in the middle of the night. Your milk is a supply and demand thing, the more you pump or the baby eats the more milk will come in. Good luck with everything and im glad she is sleeping so well for you. How are you feeling?

Not necessarily.  I don't pump at night.  I just pump right befoer bed and first thing in the morning and usually get 6-7 ounces...which covers 2 feedings.  She normally only wakes 2 times a night. BUT it wouldn't hurt to pump.  Just remember the more you pump/nurse the more milk you will produce and that probably is just going to make the engorgment worse for awhile.

If she is happy and still gaining weight going the 7-8 hours then I wouldn't worry about it.
