Yay! Thats awesome, lucky you! I am hoping I can talk my doc into letting me go in early and then again at 18-20 weeks!
I went for my first visit today too and he said a u/s at 28 weeks!! Thankfully I had one booked from before I knew I was pregnant to check my ovaries cuz I had a previous problem. So I go in at 18 weeks!
Actually my doc is pretty good about it. Usually he'll call me either way unless he is really busy. He will even leave me a message if Im not home!
My doctor doesn't usually call about bloodwork results - unless there's a problem. But if you're concerned, then by all means call. I hope everything's ok, I'm sure it is :-)
Thanks ladies!
I guess I kind of new that he wasnt going to do much, I just really did expect more. I think that because we know each other so well that he thought that if I had any concerns that I would ask about it.
I have had a ton of BW done, this being my 3 pregnancy but I have never had anyone check my AST and ALT. Maybe thats just what I am worried about. Plus my back has really been hurting, killing!
I hope I get a call on Monday to find out the results! I do know though that if he doesnt call me, I will call him and he is one of few that will actually call me back!
Thanks again!
I'm in Canada too and all he did at my first appointment (with second DD) was check my weight, BP, urine, filled out paperwork and sent me to the lab for blood work. That's about it. Second appointment he did a pap, poked my stomach and then all the rest of the usual stuff.
with my 1st appointment there wasn't much to it either. since i had already had a papsmear that year they didn't need to do one, i didn't really have any complaints so they didn't go over much. just gave me a bag of free stuff, pamphlets and stuff. blood work was a lot also, not exactly sure what they checked, they only called me when they found protein in my urine (infection). not really much that can do since the baby is soo young, but your next appointment will be much better and maybe you'll be able to hear the heartbeat as well :)
I"m in Canada as well, and I had an u/s at 12 weeks in addition to my 19 week one - I think it probably depends on the doctor.
As for the bloodwork, I think it's pretty standard.....I was tested for everything under the sun, including HIV. They just want to make sure you're healthy overall.
Thanks ladies, I guess Im just trying to figure him out, I have been going to him (and some others) for just of 4 years now. This is the first time he has ever just kind of 'passed me off'.
I think thats how Im feeling.
Thanks again.
I am from Canada and on first pre-natal appt my doc checked my brests for lumps, squeezed the belly for soreness, urine tests, pelvic exam and a did a pap smear, checked my weight/hight etc and Blood preassure. This was around 5-6 wks. After that first appt it's only been paper work apart from a urine test,BP and weight.
May be different docs have different ways of doing things. Hope this helps!
lol...thanks! I just thought that because I did have a m/c last year at 6.5 weeks and because I was spotting a bit he would have at least asked more questions. This is my 3 pregnancy and this was the first time he ordered so many different blood tests. There was 6 all together!
I'm in the US, but it sounds like a normal first visit to me. They really don't do much because there's nothing they can do. Your uterus is still too small to measure, baby too little to listen to heartbeat, and an ultrasound won't be ordered, unless there is a reason or m/c history, until around 20 weeks or so. :) I can't remember the BW done on my first visit, so I not going to be any help there. :)
