Just about 5 weeks. Questions.

So i have some questions. I just found out wednesday i was pregnant and my doc figured i was 4 weeks...so now i should be about 5 weeks. I'm 26 and Im a heavy smoker and am confused because ive read that quitting cold turkey can cause miscarriage but that smoking can also cause it. So what should i do? Also...my diet is very poor. I have several food allergies..gluten, dairy, and fructose which SEVERELY limits my nutritional intake. I can not eat fresh fruit, wheat, or dairy which is what my nutrtion book my doc gave me recommends. I pretty much live off of grilled chicken and white rice. Im also prescribed xanax which i can not quit cold turkey because it can cause seizures so im still taking the xanax. Is all of this putting me at risk of a miscarriage? This was not planned..at all. In fact...i was drinking 2-3 energy drinks a day...about 5000mg of caffeine a day which can also cause miscarriage. So..now my symptoms have pretty much disappeared. My breasts arent sore anymore. Im not really nauseous unless i get anxious and it subsides when i take xanax. And i've lost weight and dont ever feel hungry. No food cravings..i dont really want to eat at all. Not from nausea, just because im not hungry. Ive had mild cramping but heard about "missed miscarriages". Not really sure whats going on. Im calling my doc tomm for an ultrasound..they wanted to wait until jan 10th to make sure i was far along enough to see something but at this point i should probably just get one done to see whats going on. Any answers are really welcome.

For miscarriage, the sign is clots as someone posted. Symptoms of ectopic are abdominal pain - usually on one side, pain in your shoulders or ribs, bleeding. And i did the same thing as you with caffeine, don't panic about it just cut down on it now you know x

Brown blood is old blood. Not so much of a worry. I've had an ectopic. It's the red blood and pain that you need checking out. My midwife told me though that some women were rushed to hospital in ambulances absolutely gushing blood and their babies were born fine. It's just being cautious. I'd probably go to er too, just to get checked out. My bleeds were down to a threatened miscarriage and i was told not to have penetrative sex till there had been no bleeding for two weeks straight. Everything may well be fine, but you're right to get checked over x good luck

ive been drinking those crazy energy drinks too because i had no idea that caffeine was bad. i never planned on having a kid so never actually paid attention to anything pregnancy related. this is a total fluke so ive been consuming at least 3-4 cups of coffee a day and then the energy drinks that have about 2000mg of caffeine per drink without even realizing that it was no good. i only figured it out because i read the energy drink can today...after i drank it...and it said its not recommended for women who are pregnant. so then i looked up caffeine and pregnancy and found out its no good.

my boyfriend is at work. im thinking i may go to the er tonight once hes done. miscarriages and ectopic pregnancies run in my family and miscarriages are common in his family as well. i think it only looks brown because i didnt actually look at my panties until much later because i thought it was just the typical white discharge. so im slightly concerned. im still cramped up and have been having them radiate to my lower back occasionally. so...hopefully he gets out of work soon.

Especially when associated with pain. I had a lot of red blood and pain in my last pregnancy. Baby was born fine in the end but you should refrain from having sex till you've spoken to your dr

Yep, similar advice. I'd talk to my dr sooner rather than later firstly to work out the best way to reduce things that may harm your baby and secondly any bleeding that is red - i'd want checked asap x

Cramping is normal because your uterus is growing. Brown blood is old blood. Make sure you see your doc soon and tell them everything. As long as your not bleeding enough to fill a pad or are having clots then you should be fine.

Okay. To begin with try to just cut down on your smoking, and gradually quit. Get prenatal vitamens and you don't really need yo worry about what you eat. I read the m/c are from chromasonal defects. Not what mommy does. There are all kinds of things that people say can cause m/c. So it's really a throw of the dice. Good luck to you. Hopefully your doc will give you some good news. (:
