I never got cold/flu symptoms before labour... With my first son I had light contractions and I went to the hospital and got checked and labour hit hard... With my second I had a stalled labour also... A month before due date I went into labour for 5 hours and it stopped at 5 centimeters exactly a month later I woke up at 2 am and had a 30 min labour... I never herd of cold/flu symptoms before labour but I wouldn't doubt it either
the day before i went into labor i was extremely tired and barely any appetite...it may be associated with feeling like i was getting sick...i was just groggy...i actualy ended up asking the nurses to not bother me for 2 hours so i could sleep....i was soooo tired
that night i woke up with small period like cramping and paged the nurse and told her...she said they could hook me up to the machine (NST) and check to see if i am haivng contractions or not...i opted for this and i was 3 minutes apart...we all know what happened from there but i realized after having baby emilee that the tiredness and lack of appetite was a missed sign of impending labor for me
best of luck :)
The last weeks of pregnancy can bring about sore/achy body (think about you are carrying a big baby in there), fatigue, nasal congestion (thank you hormones), loose stool, nausea, baby is pushing up on your tummy and lungs, shortness of breath among other symptoms all of which lead to not sleeping very well which will make you feel even more icky and susceptible to getting sick. So the combo of all of that can make you either sick with a cold or flu or feel like you have a cold or flu.
Thank you for all the reply's. :) Hopefully I get more so I can compare and see if a lot of other ladies have any of this as well.
I never had any symptoms of labor with my daughter 8 yrs ago. I simply just went into labor. My second child, I woke up around 4am with contractions, but no cold/flu symptoms.
My middle son, I had prodromal(sp) labor otherwise known as stalled labor. I was in active labor but my cervix was stuck at 3cm for 2 weeks, until I finally gave birth.
With my youngest son, I did have flu like symptoms, just an over all yucky feeling, but no actual sickness...puking or loose stools. I was just super achy. I didn't have prodromal labor with my youngest.
I can't answer your question, but its a good one. I have had two children before but I was induced with my first and the second was a scheduled csection. I never expierenced real labor. But I am 35 weeks with my third and the last few days I have been having flu like symptoms as well. Nauesia (sp?), sneezing and runny nose. I keep thinking my little girl is going to come early.
I think that for a lot of women when their body starts to prepare for labor somehow possibly either their allergies kick up or their immune systems are lowered and they get a cold. I do know that a lot of women HAVE reported cold symptoms within a few weeks before they go into labor.
