Nothing on ultra sound at 4-5 weeks

LMP Feb 12
Neg preg test  March 6
Positive test at OB March 9 (yearly exam)

I was scheduled for my first prenatal visit March 22, but was having a few cramps on the 19th. Dr. said to come in and she have me a vaginal u/s. She saw nothing on the screen. I was told that I may be having a miscarriage or etopic. I have no bleeding and the cramping is gone. I am a mother of four and all my girls were healthy pregnancies. I have no history of miscarrige or etopic. The only reason I am worried is because I am not having really bad morning sickness like I had with my daugthers. I feel reallt good except for sore breast and sleepyness. Before the doctor scared the living day light out of me I felt the lack of morning sickness was because I am having a boy. Now I am not sure. I never had an u/s this early before and I don't know what to expect. I thought I would aleast see a circle, but there wasn't anything at all. The doctor was not negitive as if I had already lost my baby. I had the U/s on a friday and all weekend I have been checking everytime I go to the bathroom for blood. Can anyone reasure me. I cried when I found out I was pregnant because we already have 4, after taking it out with my husband I became very excited about being a mother again and maybe having a boy.

I had a scan at 6 weeks and they didn't see a fetal pole, however they THOUGHT they saw a heartbeat (but it was an old machine so they weren't sure).  Then at 9 weeks I had another scan and we saw a healthy little bean moving around with a strong heartbeat.

The heartbeat starts between 5 1/2 weeks and 6 1/2 weeks, From what I've heard having a scan before 6 weeks just tends to scare people.  Even at my 6 week scan we didn't see much at all.

What were your HCG numbers?

Hi, I also found out I was pregnant on the 9th of March was so excited it'll be our first. I then started  on the 19th to bleed only a little but freaked out then had period like cramps over the weekend, I had a scan on the 21st but they couldnit see the fetal pole, I felt so depressed preparing myself for a miscarriage, the midwife said my dates might be out, and having read other peoples experience on this site and other sites it seems it might be too early to see anything, im going back for another scan on the 31st. Are you booked in for another scan, keep positive, I understand how your feeling. x

At this stage it's really too early to tell.  Becuase of the small 3 day diff between your neg and pos tests It seems that you are very early on.  If that's the case then you won't see much on an ultrasound.  Is your doctory going to repeat the ultrasound?  Has she ordered a Betga HCG test to see what your levels are?
