Male u/s tech

Ok ladies today I was all excited as went to hospital for first scan, am only 5-6 weeks gone so needed an internal u/s. I didnt have the u/s as there was only a male tech on so have been delayed until monday. The male tech was a bit rude when I asked for a female. was wondering what others feelings are as to if its normal to have internal u/s done by a man.  If it was an abdominal one I would not have had an issue  but I feel an internal one should be performed by a female?  Am I wrong

I voted they are the same.  it is uncomfortable no matter what.

however, it is YOUR body. do whatever you want.  I have a good friend who will ony go to an all female staff for her obgyn.  Its whatever you are comfortable with.

It wouldn't bother me... I was in the army and have had male gyn, I never thought to ask for a female.  To me I guess it would  be no different then having a pap done by a man. But in the end your comfort level is all that matters.

I have had a male ObGyn before so having a male u/s tech would not have been a problem for me.

This doesn't bother me either. My dr it male so I wouldn't have thought twice about it. However I agree that your request for a female should be resected. One might think this would be something he would be used to as not every woman is comfortable with a man down there other than their SO.

Sorry you felt disrespected and now have to wait.

I didn't vote because I'm not sure! LOL It would be super odd to me. At my old doctors office...if you had a male doc giving a pelvic exam, there was always a nurse there in the room at the same time but I've only ever had female docs and midwives check me and have never had someone there.
So I guess in my opinion I think it would be ok to have a male, if there was someone else in the room..you know what I mean? It should strictly be quite professional and I could see how he may get a little offended but he shouldn't be too upset about it.

For me this isn't really an issue.  I assume, unless there is reason to feel otherwise, that they are and will behave professionally.  It just doesn't bother me.  However, if you are uncomfortable with it, your request for a female tech should be respected.  After all, you are the patient, and your comfort (unless a completely unreasonable request) should be a priority.
